thanks. if you don't mind, let me know where those places are. i just called hmb feed and fuel and they have a little giant. i've been kinda spoiled by my hovabator, but i guess it'd do in a pinch.
My hovabator genesis isn't working: the fan comes on but not the heater. The problem is, I've got eggs from eBay that arrived today. Anybody know where I can pick up a relatively cheap incubator in the Bay Area (peninsula to be more specific)?
Thanks!
My buff has gone broody and I have taken sympathy on her and decided to buy some fertile eggs for her to sit on. The eggs should be here in the next few days.
My question is this. I have a henspa and the nesting boxes are upstairs. She is currently camped out in the middle box. I am...
My only advice is to be careful. Tiffs with neighbors can escalate into much worse with little provocation.
No matter what the regs the neighbor probably isn't going to cool off easily. I guess I'd ask myself how much the fight is worth, especially since you were only intending on getting...
Out of my 32 remaining eggs I got 16 healthy babies. However out of the remaining eggs there were about 6 eggs that didn't hatch, but had candled well. I waited three days after day 21 before opening up the incubator and cracked up the eggs. I found fully formed chicks that seems to have died...
Out of 18 eggs from Meyer Hatchery 3 arrived damaged. After that I had to toss most of the eggs after day 12 or so. I'm down to like 3 and I'm no so sure about them. The eggs I got off of ebay are fairing much better.
I have the 3 week olds and then hopefully I'll have some new babies this week. I'm going to divide up the brooder into two halves so that the newbies won't be hazed by the older chicks. Once they are older I'll bring them all together. My light brahma seems to be the bossy one, the Goldedn...
My three week olds are getting frisky. They are flying on top of the brooder guard and then onto the garage floor. My wife called earlier to report that the garage is like "chicks gone wild!"
I was thinking of taking an old screen door and putting the mesh on top to prevent fly aways. Does...
i hit a ringed neck pheasant once. i pulled over to make sure the bird wasn't suffering. another car pulled over and we both looked at the animal. it was dead, but it must have snapped its neck b/c it was perfectly intact. the other guy asked if he could have it to eat. i was happy that the...
I've pulled the trigger and ordered a Henspa. It was the coop that appealed most to my eye and I liked the low maintenance aspect. Yes, it was massively over my budget, but if I didn't buy the coop it would've been something else, wouldn't it
Just thought I'd write a little bit about my incubation process.
I started by ordering eggs via Meyer Hatchery and EBay. Interestingly enough, the Meyer eggs packed in foam suffered damage with two eggs cracked beyond repair. The EBay eggs were all safe and sound. The eggs are a random...
thanks for the replies. since i have only one incubator and one brooder should i leave the hatchlings in the incubator w/ the unhatched eggs or should i move 'em immediately to the brooder? i was thinking i'd leave them in the brooder for an hour or two and them transfer the brooder...
I had the good fortune of receiving 3 chicks that were a week old yesterday. The chicks, 1 barred rock, 1 light light brahma and 1 golden laced wyandotte, will be 3 weeks old when the other kids hatch.
I am presuming that I should setup another brooder for the new ones so that their older...
thank for the advice. i think i will stick it out for now. there are so many eggs in there that i'm afraid if i take them all out, remove the turner and the grate and cover up some of the channel there will be too much time out of the heat of the incubator. i generally tend to worry and...
so then it would be safe "let it ride" for now until the water runs out? or should i dive in and try to fix it? the owner's manual for my hovabator says that most poor hatches are due to too much humidity, that's what has me worried.
I checked in on the incubator today and it's still running 70-75% on the gauge I bought from Petco.
Should I trust that number? When I take the top off it does seem pretty balmy. About 1/2 a minute and the humidity is down to 55-60%.
Should I take all the eggs out and fiddle with the water...
