Opposum for dinner? anyone? (Picture of dog with prey)

I hit a deer with my car one night and a man in a car pulled over and asked if I was ok. I told him yes and he said "leave it on the side of the road, I've been lookin for a fresh one. I need to get my truck and then I come and get him."

I was in downtown Louisburg a few years ago and two men were arguing over who was going to take home a deer that had been run over at the Tar River bridge.

Yes, we release them, I cannot kill them, I have respect for the life of all creatures.
I think I'm becoming vegetarian....

i hit a ringed neck pheasant once. i pulled over to make sure the bird wasn't suffering. another car pulled over and we both looked at the animal. it was dead, but it must have snapped its neck b/c it was perfectly intact. the other guy asked if he could have it to eat. i was happy that the bird didn't die in vain.

'Possum is fantastic (caged and corn fed for a week or two...this really should be done, since they'll eat pert near anything, including old carcasses of other dead animals which will contain all kinds of nasty things in it). Racoon is darn good too, so is dog and monkey (had those last two in the Phillipines). I've never wasted any meat from any animals I've accidentally hit with the truck unless it was badly tore up. Just carve out the bruised meat and the rest is good to go, even something as small as a squirrel is good eatin' if it's cut up right.

EVEN squirrel? C'mon now, my grandma used to make the BEST squirrel stew with homemade cat-head biscuits. (Not real cats for anyone who doesn't know, LOL!) I can't tell you how much I miss that. I can cook a lot of what she used to make, but I haven't had squirrel stew since I was a kid.

(I still don't wanna eat 'possum tho ... heard nasty things about it

Edited to add: how about alligator? Some parts are pretty good (others too greasy).
