Broody behaviour, and something that looks like hard boiled egg yolk??

I should also mention that I did not open it up, but I did poke it, and it was not firm at all, quite squishy, and came apart when I poked it.

Broody behaviour, and something that looks like hard boiled egg yolk??

Thank you for the reply! I did not take a picture, but can and will post it. It looked like solid chicken feces, but the yolky colour. The hen is acting completely normal, eating, outside free ranging. I will definitely look in to this more and keep a super close eye on her.

Broody behaviour, and something that looks like hard boiled egg yolk??

Hello! I have a hen that is just over three years old, and has not laid in about 6 months. She was sitting in the nesting box on eggs all day yesterday, and today there is something that looks like like the yolk of a hard boiled egg...this chicken has had a bit of a dirty bum since the warmer...

Hawk attack, and how to calm the remaining chicken.

She seems to be doing better this morning. I kept her in the house overnight, and when I checked on her this morning she actually got up and clucked a bit and ate some food. She did start to pant when I picked her up to check her wound, so I think I'm just going to leave it be for now. I will...

Hawk attack, and how to calm the remaining chicken.

Thanks, glad to hear that your chicken pulled through! We are heading in to our cold season right now, so I am a little worried about her lack of feathers. Might have to knit her one of those chicken sweaters hahaha

Hawk attack, and how to calm the remaining chicken.

She is not interested in food/water. I did try to syringe some water along her beak while she was panting, but she closed her mouth. I will offer her some more food and some water in a bit. Hopefully she settles a bit more by then and will eat. Thanks for your help. I'm so upset. Just glad...

Hawk attack, and how to calm the remaining chicken.

She does appear to have a cut on her side, below her wing. It is not bleeding, but there is a cluster of bloody looking feathers stuck to it. I haven't investigated too much because she is so freaked out. On a super happy note, I found our other chicken uninjured. We were in the backyard and...

Hawk attack, and how to calm the remaining chicken.

We have two backyard chickens, in an urban, but wooded area. They normally free range in our yard when we are home. I heard unusually loud chicken noises, and when I went outside a hawk flew off. It must have taken one of the chickens earlier, because I can only find one chicken now. She blew...

    Giardia

Hello! We recently adopted a dog that is positive for Giardia. We had her for a few days before her fecal test came back. We have been diligent about cleaning her feces up after she deposits it, but I know that the cysts will still be in the yard. Our chickens are free range in our backyard...

New housing development comprimising our chickens

city Council granted our property an exception! All on their own! They spoke about how unfair it would be to make an otherwise completely legal coop an illegal one because someone is building beside us. I am in total and complete shock!!!

New housing development comprimising our chickens

We currently have 2 backyard hens, and follow our cities by-law (they must be 50 feet from neighbouring dwellings). There is a housing development going in behind our property. It was a school, which has been demolished and is currently open space. The townhouses are proposed to be built 24...

Helping rest of flock deal with loss of hen

Thanks for the reply! I am not sure about a predator scare, we live in an urban area, but I guess it is totally possible! We did see a raccoon around a few weeks ago, but haven't seen it since. The other hens are very out of sorts, but hopefully they get things settled in the next little bit...

Helping rest of flock deal with loss of hen

Hello, We lost one of our chickens yesterday, she was just about at laying age. Was fine when I left the house, but dead when my husband got home from work a couple of hours later. I realize that unexpected deaths can happen in chickens, and I am not too concerned at this point because our...

Soon to be new chicken family!

Hello! I just registered, and thought that I would introduce myself! We are hoping to become a new chicken family come spring, just a few laying hens for the backyard. We are within the city, so I would like to keep things small and manageable. I am looking for layers, and will likely just...
