Teaching Nursing students about GMO and other issues related to health...suggestions?

I am a nursing instructor and I have done what I can to introduce chickens (and gardening) to my student's in an effort to teach them about the facts of nutritional life! No, I am not super hard core, but I have seen the differences growing up and tending seniors that were good old "salt of the...

    The cool chicken chat thread!

Oh no...not killed. I had to move away...not a nice divorce. I had to rehome all of my birds! I found them awesome homes to good loving people around town that cared about me and were sad to see me go (and wanted to help). I am fortunate with blessings even in tough times :)!

    California - Northern

HI ya! Some say the line is at north Stockton or even Lodi or Galt for northern California. I call myself northern because I am above Sacramento. I lived in Tracy and considered myself central Cal. All I know is I am from Oregon originally...and if you speak to an Oregonian...never say your...

Top hen mounting other hens like she's a rooster... Is this normal?

Its been a while since this thread was written about, but I just had the same thing happen with my red star! She mounted another darker red star and actually lasted longer than her rooster (*snickle). I have only seen it once, but since I have 8 hen and 7 eggs a day I tend to wonder if her...

Thank you ever so! Well...trouble in paradise! I free-ranged my chickens today to get the worms in the nice moist ground and was taking video of them having fun. Then all the sudden my roo attacked me from across the yard! I jumped at first as he spurred me, but really jumped when his beak...

Thanks to both of you! I am very excited that they might be! I wanted my chickens for eggs, but if they are California Blue Legs...I may raise a couple for fun! He is such a great roo! He really keeps the flock in order when they are free ranging, and runs in full towards anything the hens...
