Hi! I am working on a staggered hatch, using a brisnea 20 advanced for the first 18 days, and a mini advance for lockdown. My question is, is there any known problem with the eggs laying down for incubation in the 20 advanced? I generally do not have enough production from my girls I want to...
OK, this pic has a story! My 6 year old decided this years chicks needed to get it together and start laying eggs so he could make some money as he has a little egg selling business with the neighbors. He took it upon himself to give them a "nesting box", so he could buy more legos. When I...
I have a bantam that is always in the nesting box when I check for eggs. I've removed the eggs from below her, but she still stays in there. In general she seems healthy, but this is new behavior. Suggestions? She's about 1 1/2 years old.
I have 9 standard chickens (mainly barred rocks) and two bantams. In the fall the bantams were our main layers, but now our bantams aren't laying at all. Its been a good three weeks. Is this normal, or something to be concerned about. They seem healthy, and our standards are laying well for...
Mine are doing the same thing and we are in ND. We don't have a rodent problem, but we added a light. What is the best time for this to come on, and go off? I was leaving it on full time for heat, but I think this is the reason they don't want to coop-up?! If we used a red light in the...
They are getting the best layer feed I can find, and some whole grains as treats, but will try and remember to give them a little more before dusk, and the grease as a treat is a great idea (allthough my overweight dog will disagree!)
thanks! they are eating and drinking properly, but they are much thinner to the touch as well. I can feel the keel on one of them. Any suggestions to fatten them up? We've got brutal winters
3 of my 11 hens are a little over a year old, and went through their first molt this fall. I noticed last night that those girls are now much lighter, and less musculatured than the other hens right now. They have all their feathers back now, so I didn't notice until I picked them up. Is this...
Hey Chicken experts! We are going into our first winter with chickens in North dakota, and I'm looking for some suggestions on feeding my flock in the winter. We let them free range when were playing outside in the summer, but we wont be out as much as it gets colder. Right now they get the...
I just adopted three "cochins", two look just like the photos on your website for the breed, and the other is the same small stature, but doesn't have the fluffy feathers, feathers on the feet, or lots of feathers on the head. Thoughts? I will post a pic when it stops raining outside :)
Thanks!
thanks. I will try that. She's not very happy in solitary, but I have a hen that is a bit of a bully, so I'm going to try and give her a little space. Any ideas on the antibiotics would be appreciated!
I have a flock of 5 month old Barred Rocks (5 birds). Since we got them, one hen has had curled toes and this has never bothered her. I didn't worry about it because several of the chickens at our zoo have similar feet, and they are obviously fine. Well now that hen is limping. I checked her...
Their roost is about a foot off the ground. I have seen them on it many times, but they never sleep on it... go figure. I assume that as long as they are in their coop, wherever they want to sleep is fine?
Thanks again for all your help!
Wow! You guys are awesome! I have the space for a run on my coop, but we didn't think we needed to build it until the winter (we live in Wyoming). It won't take us long to build though, so I will get on it this weekend. They do have roosts in their coop, but they never sit on them? They...
