If you go to your local farm supply store they might have a spray call Nixall wound and skin solution. It works remarkably well at preventing infection and speeding the healing process. It's also available online at Nixall.com
I'm not a salesman for them, but I've seen it work on cattle. It...
I ran an electric fence, two strands high, around the outside of my fence to keep the ground predators at bay. Total cost was less than $200 and I can rest knowing they should remain safe while locked up in their run and coop.
I'm stumped. Why would two chicks be like three times the size of the third? Only thing I can think of is the bigger two are roosters or turkeys? All three have the same coloration sonim guessing roosters?
We've got buff orpingtons, aurcanas, California whites, a mixed rooster and three 2 week old barred Plymouth Rock chicks. Our 12 hens, got them in March, average 8 eggs a day. Hopefully when next spring rolls around we can average a dozen or more per day.
I live a little north of Springfield. I've got Buffs, Ameraucanas(spelling), California whites and Plymouth Rocks and a mixed rooster. 12 hens, 3chicks and one happy rooster total.
I live in Springfield and have been buying my feed lately on Amazon from Scratch N Peck feeds. It's so expensive! Does anyone close know where I can get quality feed lime that locally, online or just less expensive? It runs $70 for a 50# bag and I go thru about 3-4 bags a month!
Thanks, I understand about different time frames, zones etc. I work nights and just woke up.
The chick died about 0330 this morning. We tried everything we could think of and nothing worked.
In the long run it is a learning experience. Our kids are both upset, which is expected...
We got four Plymouth Rock chicks yesterday. A neighbor gave them to us. They weren't suppose to hatch, she thought the eggs were rotten under a broody hen. Anyhow, they hatched and are 6 days old now. Three seem to be doing great. One seems to be a little smaller than the rest and slower to...

Hi and thank you,
We don't have an Orscheln's here, there's one about 25 miles away. There are several feed stores locally, was just curious if anyone prefers the quality of one stores product vs a different.
I live in the Springfield area. Anyone here close by? We've got 12 hens, should be getting our first eggs sometime next month. I was wondering where to get quality feed for them close by.
Thanks for the link! It is very informative. I'm going to add more vents and cover the run and I think enclose the 6x6 run on three sides as well. That way they have plenty of shade and wind/rain blockage from three sides and leave the bigger run with only the top covered with chicken wire and...
I am new to here and chickens... The above is my coop. The door and window face west, there is another window on the north side. There are two small vents on top side of the north and south facing walls and the 12" x12" opening to the run. Do I need more ventilation? I live in Southwest...
I live in the Springfield area as well. Do y'all know if the feed is still available and what age if laying hens it is intended for? If so, I'd be interested in a 50# bag. Thanks
