    Catching a chicken.... HOW???????

Believe it or not, but my dog caught one for me. He didnt hurt it, just held it down on both wings. Pretty impressive for a dumb animal. Other than that, I used a fishing net or my brother.

Good fishin weather here in MA

I love to fish and hunt, but I have not fished yet this year. I normally just use worms that I find out of the ground and catch some panfish.

    Coop location?

We live in a woods so space is to a minimum. There is one ideal location that I found, but the back wall of the coop with have to face west and it is kind of on a hill. If I make the walls tight and draft free, will it be ok. I know chickens can take some cold, but I dont want to freeze them...

    Rooster has to go...

I had the same issue. Of all the roosters that I had only one was nice. I had many bald chickens running around the yard. I even had a bantam rooster that went after the bigger hens.

Heating a coop in the winter?

Quote: I wouldnt say that. I had a few silkies and some old English game hens. They did pretty well. They stayed inside most of the time, but they did come out for a few minutes along with the bigger birds.

    Electricity?

I know that chickens have been raised before without it, but it is a good idea. The originial coop had power in it and the lights were nice, but I had the water heater in the winter time. On some of those cold days in Indiana, even that water heater could not keep up. Would it be ok to just have...

    Coop floor

I would do the linoleum floor to protect the cedar base. I would then use the pine wood shavings to to absorb some of the "remains." That would he minimze odor and keep your bird living quarters clean.

    Newb Here

The name is Dave. I am currently 17. About 5 years ago I bought some chicks and had a nice size beginners flock of about 25 birds. Had a couple of mean roosters too. Those are fun to have around the house. All in all it was quite the experience. As time went one so did the birds and I had to get...
