need some feed back on my Hen

She flew up but couldn't stay on the roost. She tried twice and fell back down. I helped her once and she just flapped her wings and when I let go she fell back down. It's like she couldn't balance. She is also molting alot on her feet. She has no hair on them. Poor girl. It's not like her. She...

need some feed back on my Hen

Hi, I am not sure if I should be worried or not but my 1 1/2 year old Brahma has stopped laying eggs for about over a week. So what I have discovered is she is molting since she is losing feathers like crazy. I read some post on this and have tried to give her protein (yogurt and crumbles and...

Wanted to thank you guys for responding. Also wanted to ask how can you tell if this is for certain a cockerel? Not doubting but I have no idea about how to tell. Is it just the comb? Not that he is aggressive since hens can be also. I just want to make sure he is a he before I make any...

Can anyone tell if this is a hen or rooster? She (or he) is 8 weeks old. This bird is very aggressive and I have been trying to introduce her to some 5 week old chicks and she (he) is so mean and aggressive. She will not leave them alone and circles the rabbit cage I have them in. When I let...

hen has started pecking one of her chicks,

Thanks for the reply. I had all the chicks out in the garden free ranging and it seemed to go better. I didn't raise them side by side because these new chicks where vaccinated and i wanted to quarantine them since some in my first flock died of Mareks. I am not sure why my mother hen is...

hen has started pecking one of her chicks,

I need some advice please. I am new to raising Chicks. My first flock last year died of Marek's. I have one left and she is a very sweet Brahma. She went broody and has raised four chicks who are now 7 weeks old. She was a great mom. We have given two to a friend. So she has two left, a black...

need advice on new baby chicks

I do have them on medicated feed since they have no been vaccinated for cocci. Should I switch? Should I take their food away at night or separate her and take it away from her? Do I still feed her mesh that I make her? Doesn't Poly V sol take care of the Thiamine? So is full crop a bad thing? I...

need advice on new baby chicks

Wanted to update on baby chick. I can't believe it but this little chick is back with the flock! I never though she would make it. I fed her and gave her vitamins and vitamin E, electrolytes and lots of TLC. This girl has a will to live. It seems she has no problems coming back to the...

need advice on new baby chicks

I saw this at tractor supply but it didn't seem to have Vit B1 ( I don't think) but I think I will get it anyway. I heard that VIt E is also good and it has it. This chick has such a will to live. I can't believe how strong she is even with not eating a whole lot. She wants to do everything...

Yes I am. Update on the baby chick. She cried all day yesterday. I did the pulling of the leg. When I went to go check on her this morning she was laying on her side. I thought she was gone but to my surprise she wasn't so I gave her water and some food. I couldn't believe it but she sat up...

Thanks for the info. I read it I tried to stretching in case her tendon was dislocated. She is drinking water and eating a little but wants to sleep mostly. need advice on new baby chicks

I have pine shaving with paper towels on top (so they will peck at food not shavings) and I made a water bottle with the nipples and I also have a chick water bowl (the ones you buy at tractor supply for baby chicks) and I have a very small cat dish for their food. I have a little card board box...

Ok I am beginning to think I am not cut out for raising chickens. This is to hard for me! Ok I am starting a new thread for advice. To update, my first flock I got from a backyard breeder that I thought vaccinated but lost 3 out of 4 (two to Marek's and one to Ovarian Ca) My last hen went broody...

Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

Wow so sad to hear these stories of our chickens not making it. It is never easy. Updated on the chick that was not doing well, she pasted away in the night Friday night. I knew she wasn't doing well and I tried to feed her but all she wanted to do was sleep. I can't believe my first year...
