This is an old post, but I thought if dig it back up.
What's the latest on this project?
I got some eggs this spring and raised two of these hybrids, very interesting birds.
Goal is to have pea and duplex combined in one line and rose and duplex in another.
A friend of mine has taken over the pea/duplex combination, and I have yet to do the duplex/rose combo.
"boles asil"
is kinda like saying "hatch"... it used to mean something.
now you see white legged hatch, yellow legged hatch, green legged hatch, pea or straight comb, heck I even saw one rosecomb bird that the guy claimed was "McClean Hatch"
I have a Dun project going with the ameraucana.
They're actually phoenix / ameraucana / grey junglefowl blends.
This is the best rooster. At least he is the only one with beard and muffs,
and dun color and pea comb
Sorry it's so blurry but here are a few of the hens I have with him...
I try again
I dont know what's up. I cant get the direct link to work, just have to click the link. sorry folks
I cant take credit for these birds, I didnt breed them, I got them from someone else.
This is a "phoenix" stag. His daddy is from my Duplex comb Phoenix line and his mother is a blend of onagadori, phoenix, ohiki, and totenko. I have two of this brothers but he has the most neck and back hackle AND the most tail length of the three. I have two bbred pullets I am going to keep...
Asil X Sumatra. Nice hen all around.
3/4 Phoenix, 1/4 Ceylon Junglefowl. Mother of next hen and five more just like her that I still have.
I will be breeding five of these to a Grey Junglefowl x Phoenix F1 and a Ceylon Junglefowl X Longtail F1. These are my favorite hens that I...
Asil X Sumatra. He is triple spurred, and only about 6 months in this picture.

From the above rooster and a pure China Game hen. He is about 5 months or so here.
He has the...

It sounds to me (based on my somewhat limited experience) that these birds have longcrower AND grey junglefowl genetics floating around in there.
I need to put some of my grey hybrids over some of my longcrowers and see what happens.
the meat is not any different. Just more of it
Texas A&M bred their quail to get big and do so quickly, and they do have the white color, but most of what you see out there nowadays advertised as texas a&m are so far removed from their actual breeding program that they should probably just be...
The simple answer is still to make the cross, and keep the peacombed bearded/muffed ones. Or keep looking for an EE rooster in your area. I guarantee somebody over there has one. heck I have one you can have for free if you want to drive to 30 miles on the other side of atlanta.
I like mixbreeds best for broodies. Game x Contintental layer is my favorite. They make big hens that are fierce enough to take care of their babies. And to me they are prettier than pure layers.
I think the answer is that it is indeed cheaper to grow out your DP roosters than to buy cornish crosses. That is not where I do the math. The question is which produces the final product that you most desire. The carcasses of the two will be very different.
Everyone has their own opinion on this. I do a lot of wide outcrossing, and a lot of tight inbreeding. Mostly what I do is Aunt-Nephew crosses or something similar.
But I do not think it will cause problems unless the problems are already there hiding. I once made a brother-sister mating...
Here is a picture of one of my fibromelanistic "Orientals." He is about 6 months old. He is squatted down so you can't see his legs. Sorry. His color is Dun Red (not sure of the E-locus)
