hi,
all my chickens have had to be put in the coop the first couple of nights, after that they started doing it themselves, after the sun starts to set but before its completely dark.
my ducks have all day access to a pond, but at night to avoid the mess they have a couple of water bottles, the ones ment for rabbits, they quickly figured out how to use them and they havnt had any problems with them so far.
do chicks that get red combs at a young age ALWAYS turn out to be roos or does anyone have any experiance with them being pullets?
a friend of mine hatched some of my eggs for me, i have 7 chicks. 4 are 9 weeks and 3 are 8 weeks, only one of them has a small pale comb, 3 have small red combs and...
I have a 9(ish) month old amber star pullet who had been laying 4-6 eggs a week through-out winter, then two weeks ago she lays a soft egg - then nothing, not one! she wasnt moulting, not broody, so as you can imagine i was starting to worry she had something was wrong with her. but she was...
seein as your not there to inspect the coop before locking the door, does nobody get concerned that a critter may get in before the door closes and gets locked in with the chooks leaving them no way of escaping? or do you all have a way around this?
surpose its less risky then leaving it wide...
i think i read somewhere that people give to hens that are going through there molt or as a treat, but i dont think its a healthy choice for there main food . mine will come in and steal the cats food if i forget to close the back door
so shortly after posting, my ex came round to bring my son home, he decided to take a look, he managed to get her eye lids unstuck and got a little white glupy stuff out her eyes, she was able to hold them open by herself, he also cleared the fluff that had got stuck down across her nostils with...
yesterday while cleaning out my silkie chicks cage i noticed that one of them was just standing in the corner hunched up in a ball with her eyes closed. i kept an eye on her for the remainder of the day, s/he has been moving around a little but very clumbsy as her eyes are still closed, i havent...
i originally had four boys, apart from the occasional standoff they got along fine. i still had two boys when i got my girls and they still seemed fine and both equally went with the girls, but they were young my remaining roo (now a daddy, not that he knows it) is only five months, dont know...

i live in a terraced house so my neibours are close, i wouldnt want to annoy them with the noise.
also the council made my neibour get rid of her roosters, although she rents council owned accomodation where as i own my house so that might have been down to the tenancy aggrement and not the law...
