did you see the hawk? We had rats that attacked a few of our birds, one made a wound in my turkey like that... we caught one red handed... peroxide is good, is the bird up .. walking around at all.. or standing??
My 10 month Pure bred Brahma rooster was in the chicken yard... when suddenly he just started doing flip flops, and fell over dead. no signs of any problems prior, all the hens are fine, I have an old Brahma rooster, Elvis, who is 8 years old and still kickin' and only 1 other rooster, a 3 year...
Hi everyone.
My Name is Debbie and I am a critter-o-holic! I am addicted to my farm.
This is my rooster "Pimp Daddy Roster"
and my first hen... Henrietta
This is me and my first goats.. Sharabelle and her baby Angel
My dream has been to have a farm of my own eversince I was a little...
I think they got these from someone who breeds them, they told them they were African geese, but I don't think they really care if they are purebred.. they were more intrested in if they were male or female. 2 pair would be awesome! time will tell.. I just know they are huge!!! this picture was...
do you have them in a brooder under a light?? usually when they hatch you need to keep them warm and safe, they are very vulnerable as chicks and a bigger hen or rooster will pick them up and toss them around like nothing. They do need to be separate from the bigger birds, and in a contained...
unless you have them somewhere where they won't get muddy or dirty again, it is pretty much a losing battle until the rain stops and the mud goes away! mine are muddy too, I think you can give them a bath but I would use something mild for soap, like baby shampoo... or just water. and blow dry...
I do a drench with oil, vegetable oil works, olive oil too, helps get things going plus the baking soda... does sound like bloat. Keep an eye on her, hope she gets better.
lots of chicks are yellow when they are hatched, in a few days when the feathers start coming out you will be able to tell more. do they have feathers on their legs?? you need to post pictures! You know when anyone gets new babies they have to post pictures so we can all see the babies!!!
I've taken a warm wet washcloth and set the egg in it, kinda cradle the egg, it worked on an egg I was having the same problem with, it was a late bloomer after all the others hatched I thought the hatch was over when I heard it peep and the humidity was too low by then.
chickens do have a tendancy to pick at another if it is bleeding. 5 1/2 weeks is still pretty young. I would separate her for a few days, maybe you can put a dog carrier for a few days till she heals up.
we have guineas and they pretty much stay in our yard, we have a 6 ft. fence around most of our property, but they still fly over the fence and go to the neighbors pasture and eat their bugs, they like them, we are lucky... some neighbors would not be so easy going! The guineas are really loud...
what kind of ducks do you have? I know the only time my ducks are clean is when they are outside and can get in their pool to take their baths. They love to slash in water and the only way to really keep the water out of the bedding is to have them on wire and no bedding..... we did that one...
the only reason I thought heat was an issue is that I ordered 25 chicks, and 4 were sultans, 4 were polish, and they were the ones that were falling over, doing exactally what you described.., I lost 2 sultans and 1 polish when I called mcmurray.. all the other chicks seemed fine, when I made...
90 is probably not warm enough, is there a way to lower the light? I had problems with shipped chicks a few years ago and thats what mcmurray hatchery told me, I lowered the light, got them warmer and they were just fine then. are you measuring the heat from the bottom or the top, your temp for...
sounds like they are not warm enough, they will fall over like that if they are too cold.. also I put sugar in the water for a few days when I first get them.
