I'm learning chicken math! I have 5 laying hens, but one skips a day sometimes. So I actually only have 4. You can't get just one chicken because that's sad, and it takes 2 chicks to make 1 hen, right? So I got 2 chicks, but I have to feed them, so it's like I never got them. So I had to get 2...
For the record, I think Chicken Math should be a pinned post...I had no warning!
I just love the chickens. Gathering the eggs, chatting up the ladies, doing silly things like watering my straw bales to make sure there are bugs under them for the chickens to snack on later...it's one of my...
I only have 5 hens, so after I bring my eggs into the house, they go in a hanging basket. Once I have a dozen, they go into the fridge in my acrylic cartons. If I have extras, they sell (sometimes TOO fast!) but the buyer provides their own container.

Thank you for the welcome!
I agree, I have been so grateful for all of the information I've found here. I don't panic about anything anymore without coming here and looking up whatever it is that I'm worried about! Everyone has been kind and patient, so to the folks who run this site, I thank...
My first intro was pretty brief, and I'm sad to report that I lost all of those first chicks to my dog, who hasn't been raised around chickens and had no idea that those weren't boxed up in that handy coop just for him. So, I thought I would try again.
I am raising chickens for the first time...
