    Chicken Diarrhea

I have 16 birds. I noticed one has diarrhea. A few days later I noticed a few had it. I'm not sure what to do. It's hard to tell which ones have it. They free range during the day. They seem to act normal except they have a bad habit of laying eggs under the roosts this spring. Any ideas? Thanks

How do I keep my chickens away from my house and garden?

I have about 20 chickens. They like to dig up my plants... I dont like that... How do I naturally repel them? Also, the chickens love to dig up the dirt around the foundation of the house so much as the changing the grade in an area and causing water in the garage. I need to stop this ASAP...

    Chickens keep pecking disabled bird

I have a chicken that is disabled. She walks on her knees. She's been in the coop with the other chickens in a separate cage. She was like that for a couple weeks. I finally took her put of the cage and all they do is peck her head. I've used no peck and that seems to help... Will they stop over...

    Rooster has bare rear end

My rooster seems to have lost all of his tail feathers. It looks like a couple came back but it's very hard to tell. Any idea? I've used Vetrycin and no peck on it. I also have a hen that I think just has a skin and feather problem from the rooster bothering her so much. What do you think? Thanks

Have you ever had a flock with a respiratory disease?

Have you ever had a flock with a respiratory disease that was incurable? If so, did you keep or cull the birds? The reason I ask is because mine might but I'm curious about others. I've been worried about this all day and am going to have mine checked.

Chicken cannot walk. Puss filled foot.

A week or so ago I noticed that one of my birds, who is about 6 to 8 weeks old was walking funny. I tried moving the tendon back with my finger but that didnt work. It appeared to be a splayed leg. I used a rubber band and put the legs closely together... I checked on it every day. No real...

    Birds killed by bobcat

I had 16 birds killed by a bobcat about 2 weeks ago. 11 hens, one rooster, and 5 guinea hens. (It was very upsetting. 3 of the chickens came by name and most let me pick them up and followed me around.) I live in Massachusetts. I did call MassWildlife and they said most bobcats arent rabid. Id...

How long can eggs stay in nest box before they go bad?

How long can eggs stay in nest box before they go bad? My feeder and waterer hold several days of food for my chickens. If I go somewhere for a few days like I recently did, are the eggs still good? It's summer and up to 90 during the day sometimes. I do have a rooster. When would I not want...

Putting my younger birds in with the adults

I'm ready to put my younger chickens in with the older ones... I have one major concern.... The younger ones eat a food with a higher protein content than the adults.... Is it going to cause an issue switching them a little early? I really don't have a choice. They are to big for the area they...

    Washing eggs

I'm sorry I'm starting another thread about this, but there seems to be a lot of different views on this topic. I prefer, I think, to wash eggs before I put them in my refrigerator. How long are they good for once washed? What if they are not refrigerated, but washed? If I do wash them what is...

Chicks and Pullets... How to properly feed in same coop.

My chick's are going to go in with my hens that just started laying in about 4 to 6 weeks. The thing that concerns me is they eat two different kinds of food. The chicks eat starter/grower until they reach 18 or so weeks. The others are eating layer crumbles. How do I make sure they get the food...

Acceptable temp and humidity levels for the coop?

I have been searching all over. I cannot find an actual acceptable Coop temperature range or Coop humidity range. The ranges I find for humidity are between 30 and 80%. That's quite a large range. Does anyone know of a more accurate range? Thanks

Paint inside of coop? Too many different views... What do you think?

I'm building chicken coop. I want the floors and walls painted. I would like a vinyl floor. 50% say these are great ideas. 50% say it's a terrible idea. What's best for the chickens, eggs and me? Priming with Kilz latex primer and then applying two coats of exterior paint inside on floors and...
