Yes, the wing tips are there, but much shorter than all the rest and has no tail feathers yet. The other black one has a little longer wing feathers, but no tail also. So does the little munchkin in the last photo, but she is a bantam and very slow to develop. I am hoping she is a girl cause she...

    Rooster???? help! *pics.

"1, 3, & 4 look like roos to me " Interestingly those are the three that charge each other and have the thicker legs. However, the americauna and australorp have a lot more feathers than the SLW (the one in question). When do they usually start to crow? Also, i thought the SLW sexing is done...

What is the blue on his/her head? I know where I get my sexed chicks from, they put the blue on their heads to let you know they are boys. They came from both Privett and the Belt Hatchery. 3 out of 5 came with the blue on their heads. They were all supposed to be girls. I was under the...

They should be fully feathered to go outside at night. I think that is around 6-8 weeks. If it is cold in your area, supplimental heat lamp in the coop should be fine.

Hi Neighbor! I am in Auburn, and am on the same venture. After much research, i have found that your best bet is to order your chicks through your local feed store. I have a coopers hawk that sits in my tree and preys on the pigeons that are on my phone line. I have gone right up to the tree and tried to shoo it away and the hawk could care less. LEAD found in coop and we've been eating the eggs !Freaking out !

I bought some old antique windows with peeling paint for my chicken coop. I am certain they have lead paint on them. I just put a mask on, took a spatula and gently lifted any bubbled paint and left the rest on and just painted over it. If you put harware cloth on the inside framing of your...

Weak chick worsening To cull or not to cull

I think everyone deserves a chance. They can pull through sometimes, if you know the temps are right, and you can assist with food and water, i would give it a few more days at least and see if it gets it's strength.
