Geezer she's just like the cats lol I came out this morning to find she has discovered the heater! When I move her she just goes back and lays down haha
I hatched out 75 cemani eggs last year (the ones that hatched) and ended up with 14 solid black hens and 4 solid black roosters, the culls for the most part I treated like every other chicken and.... Ate them. And just keep the exceptional ones so I'm not making the breed muddy. I don't plan on...
Haha right now my only cemani that is laying is the one hurt one I have inside haha but I have 16 other girls that could really start any time now hahaha but that sounds like a good deal! :)
Who did you buy from? I think this year instead of eggs I'm going to buy some chick's. Hopefully there will be less calls if a breeder is already sending black chick's...? Only one way to find out :)
That's her wound after 2 weeks. I should have taken a picture when I first found it. So you could see her meat and bone there. It was crazy looking all Grey and black and slimy. Very little blood. She's happier inside with us right now :)
I also have to be honest when I first got Ayam cemanis...
Yeah I was surprised! Not only that out of the 18 others in the batch I hatched her out of she is the first to lay. I do think that is because she has been inside. But she has a big gash on her (I'll post a picture of it in the morn) so I definitely expected no eggs from her. Lol
I have had Ayam cemanis for a couple years now. At the moment I have 20 (4 breeding cages) the first thing I have to say is that they were the easiest to tame of all of my chickens. They fly over to me and want to be petted and loved on.
I was originally told that they were Not cold hardy...
The little girl I posted a picture of the baby and I with it my only cemani laying eggs right now. Even with a giant gash down her back. I think because she's been inside for a week. She's been more like a Parrott than a chicken haha
None of my others are laying yet. Just her I think it's because she's been inside for almost a week out of the winter. (plus she's been getting into the grass flats I grow for them and eating it ALL) I grow flats of grass for them to eat and play in IN the winter
OMG I know this is a serama thread, but as I was sending that last post my wounded Ayam coming her I have inside came up to me and was grunting and panting so I rubbed her tummy so she... Layer an egg on my lap! Crazy!!
i am defiantly looking forward to getting a good quality trio from you soon :) i have been telling people about the seramas and buying pairs or trios instead of eggs, most people just think "chicken" and are unimpressed until they see them. or complain that its to costly to buy 2 or three birds...
