Yay!!

I’m @ 40% incubation and 60-65% hatching humidity. Hatched out 12 of 13 Marans and all 12 of the Olive Eggers.

She’s a Marans. Yes it looked a little green to me too. I thought perhaps due to the time since death maybe the blood and yolk were beginning to mix together. Didn’t stink at all.

Out of 39 eggs in the incubator, I had LOTS of clears/infertiles. Final results: 12 clears, one early death, set 25 in the hatcher. 24/25 hatched out, one late death. :/

Well, at the end of day 21, all 12 of my Olive Eggers are out, we have 8 Black Copper Marans and 3 more with pips. One big, gorgeous brown egg just sitting in there without even a wiggle. It seems like the babies from that hen just don’t make it. :/ I did have to help the last Olive Egger out...

I do this and have no excuse. ‍♀️ It helps to feel as if I can do something to help!

When an entire tray of fluff balls has hatched but one...and the one has a pip! Gaaaah! I want so much to reach in and grab 11 fluffy cheepers to snuggle with!!! We are at 11/12 Olive Eggers. 7 of 13? Marans have hatched but one looks to have a prolapsed umbilical thing. One more has pipped...

Woke up to 8 Olive Egger chick’s, 3 eggs have pips and one more with no action yet. Looks like at least 11/12! There is a single Marans baby screaming his fool head off. (He’s alone in another tray.) 3 other Marans are zipping. Let’s go, babies!!!

I’ve read ducklings take a lot longer to hatch out than chickens-like up to 48 hours after that first single pip! So don’t freak out!

Woke up to two external pips! Woot woot! Today is supposed to be my weekly house cleaning day...bathrooms and kitchen floor and dusting. Maybe that will help keep me occupied!

Ugh, I so expect at least a couple of babies by the end of day 19... which makes for a very long day on day 20 if nobody has popped out yet!!!

It’s sooooo true. My best hatch was the one where they all happened overnight! I didn’t have to spend a ten hour day staring at them!

Final tally: 14/19. The two I opened up were late DIS with no rhyme or reason, they just didn’t pip. One of the other 3 was actually swishing around in there and the other two didn’t look right and I was afraid to open them. I’m really disappointed but I suppose I can’t expect perfection. Two of...
