I will get a picture of her this morning at some point. I thought with paralysis that her legs would not move. Her legs move alright! She just doesnt want to stand on them on her own. When I try putting her back into her sling, she uses her legs to try and get out but doesnt use them on the...

I found one of my hens laying on her side and not walking but moving her legs about! I took her out of the flock and contained her in a container. She didnt look too well the next day as she was whipping her head in the oddest of ways. I gave her some positive energy and said my goodbyes and...

In the name of recycling - OUR NEW CHICKEN COOP!!!!

DH and I have been searching for a new chicken coop for our lovely chickens as we are sick and tired of using our wood shed. I hate mites and no matter how hard we tackle them, they just keep coming back. Well, while looking on a website for used goods, we found this: Welcome to the Chicken...

Mushy crop - draining through mouth!

I was reading up on sour crop and they said to put the chicken upside down and to massage some of the liquid out. I also made sure I hydrated her with water and apple cider vinegar...as the website had stated.... well, unfortunately, mine died too. Poor thing.

Cocci been very bad on others this year?

It was a bad year for us as well! Our original flock did not catch it, but we bought 70 new chicks for this season and only 47 have made it through the whole cocci thing. I believe it was the wet weather we have had this year as well. I know another kid and he told me that 90% of his flock got...

Mushy crop - draining through mouth!

Hi All, I found one of our hens in the corner of the coop not doing much. When I went to check on her, she was not looking so good. I noticed that she has gross liquid coming from her mouth and upon feeling her crop, it is very mushy...like a sack of liquid. I put her upside down and massaged...

    Emergency Egg-Section was a SUCCESS!!

Here is a picture of my beautiful new Australorp chick, Charolette. She did not have the easiest time hatching herself out the other day. She had made a pip and for more than 12 hours, she did not progress at all. I finally noticed that she was upside down in her egg and could not move one bit...

My Momma Hen is a Momma! I was just arranging her water and food for her and then I saw this little beak poke out from her chest for a brief 10 seconds. I am so thrilled and excited to see how many more she has hatched underneath her. YAY! In her brooder, should I put a heat lamp in the...

Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

I did have one egg hatch, but another broody hen...ate it! Yeah!!! Not impressed. The second broody hen has been stealing this clutch from my first BH. I found the first BH in another nesting box sitting on some other egg. I made the snap decision, and I know that it must have stressful for her...

Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

I guess that is probably what has happened. I will put some netting over her nesting box and go from there. If she will let me transport her to the brooder, where I have 4 other chicks, then I will try that option as well. Fingers Crossed
