Last year, I decided to try hatching my own eggs. I was expecting a rooster, but definitely not 3. So now I'm looking for someone in the central florida area who is looking to take in a roo. They're all mixed breeds from the same father (black orpington mix) who has since passed away. I grew...
I've never heard of that, what is it? I had another chicken in the past who got attacked by a dog, I brought her inside and that night, she died the same way.
I'm sorry to tell you this, but she just passed away. I heard her making noise and when I saw her, she was dead. I think you're right, RIRs seem to be prone to egg binding.
I've actually had a different Rhode island red who had the same problem, but with her, I could get the egg out immediately and she's never had another problem with it since then.
Thank you, I'll keep soaking her and hopefully it will come out. I don't want to have to do it, but if i can't help her I'll have to just put her out of her misery. I do everything i can to help my chickens, but if i can't help them I won't let then suffer.
I had used it on a hen with a ton of swelling. Somehow she was walking fine, but the infection was really bad. I had already done surgery on her feet and it didn't help. I had to soak her for roughly 3 weeks. I wasn't keeping track. Just keep soaking her until the scab falls off naturally. It...
I've delt with bumblefoot several times and the best thing I've ever used is tricide-neo. It has to be ordered online or anywhere that sells antibiotics for fish. Soak her feet with water and tricide-neo every night for about 5 minutes and it should clear up. It takes longer to treat, but it...
This morning when I went to check on the chickens, I saw one of my RIR's who was basically sleeping on the roost with her head almost dangling towards the ground, like she couldn't keep her head up.
I grabbed her and looked her over, and it seems like she had something go with her egg. I didn't...

Forgot about this thread, so I thought I would do an update. My rooster is recovering just fine. I've been checking his ears every day, and they're still clear. I haven't had to clean them out again since the initial treatment. He's been taking tylan 50 for 2 days now, I haven't seen him yawn...
As of now, I think it's an ear infection. Thanks for the correction, that saves me a lot of time lol. I have a couple hens who I've now noticed have the same facial swelling, so after this guy is done, they'll probably be getting treated too. Since you mentioned the bugs, that would make a lot...
Okay so you can kind of see the infection but I couldn't get a picture close enough to see inside the ear. His other ear is mostly fine, this was the only ear that seemed noticably bad.
No, actually I'm glad you gave me that answer. I tend to look at the worst possible scenario, so it was nice to see someone be positive about it. Really makes me feel better about my poor rooster.
