Mareks? Maran unable to walk/pale comb/labored breathing

How long did your hens last once you separated them? I’m wondering how long this one will hold on.

Mareks? Maran unable to walk/pale comb/labored breathing

Yeah it really sucks. I actually feel kind of bad keeping her alive with water and food as she deteriorated.

Mareks? Maran unable to walk/pale comb/labored breathing

Thanks. I’m pretty sure , after reading that, that the bird does have Mareks. There is a necropsy provider not too far from me. I’m just hoping that the whole flock isn’t wiped out.

Mareks? Maran unable to walk/pale comb/labored breathing

The issue with the vet is that I’d be more likely to do that if I thought she had something that was going to run through the flock. I don’t want to spend $500 for a bird that isn’t going to live anyway. Hopefully, she has some more pep in the morning. I tried the bath yesterday but I don’t...

Mareks? Maran unable to walk/pale comb/labored breathing

How old was your Maran? This one is 18-20 weeks old. We went through a pretty bad heat wave a bout two weeks ago and I noticed she was taking it harder than the others. I did notice she was walking oddly then but was preoccupied with the other one dying. That bird was a Whiting True Blue and I...

Mareks? Maran unable to walk/pale comb/labored breathing

We have a Black Cuckoo Maran that is about twenty weeks old. Recently, she began walking as if she were uncertain of his next step, kind of like a drunk. She also has labored breathing with her mouth open and heavy breaths. I thought maybe she was egg bound but she wasn’t. Her poop is solid but...

    Green Poop/Lethargic/can’t stand Pullet

The crop feels a little squishy and not firm. I just think his crop looks enlarged but he’s been like that since we got her. She seems to have pepped quite a bit after we got her to drink some water. Please see the picture for his crop. Thanks so much

    Green Poop/Lethargic/can’t stand Pullet

She seems to have control over her head and neck and was vaccinated for Marek. She seems to pep up a little when we get her drinking. The crop is very swollen.

    Green Poop/Lethargic/can’t stand Pullet

I have Whiting True Blue that is lethargic and can’t stand. She was sitting in the bedding of the coop while all the others were out roaming. She has always been a little different as far as activity levels and has a swollen crop area. Her legs can’t keep her up. Last week I noticed a Lime green...

    Graphic Pics, Sorry. Predator ID?

Thanks. I’ve walked the perimeter and tried to find any weaknesses. We have seen a few bald eagles over time. I share your sentiment that whatever it was will be back for more. It seems like the Barred Rock was plucked clean and then eaten and/or carried away. I’ve read that this is a hallmark...

    Graphic Pics, Sorry. Predator ID?

I keep my chickens in a chicken tunnel during the day that runs about 100 feet. I only let them roam the entire yard when I am out there. A few times they have found a hole in the tunnel and gotten loose. That’s what happened this morning. Two got out and paid the ultimate price for it. The...

    Graphic Pics, Sorry. Predator ID?

No roaming dogs and no noise that we heard, from high is odd. This particular chicken looks like he was stabbed, which I understand to be from the hawk talons. Oh well.

    Graphic Pics, Sorry. Predator ID?

Hi All! I went out this morning to find two piles of chicken feathers in the yard - one from our Ameracauna and one from Plymouth Barred Rock. I found the Ameracauna carcass in our front yard with a trail of white feathers as if it were chased or carried. No idea where the Barred Rock is resting...

    Dead Wyandotte after Bloody Egg

I have a Silver Laced Wyandotte as part of a six hen flock. He chicken has always seemed a bit slower than the rest. In any event, the flock produced a bloody egg yesterday. (The outside not the yolk) . Today, when we went out to collect the eggs, the Wyandotte was dead in the floor of the coop...

BARRED ROCK MALE OR FEMALE - 12 WEEKS

THIS IS MY 12 WEEK OLD PLYMOUTH BARRED THAT I AM TRYING TO FIGURE IF HE IS A ROOSTER. MY SUSPICION COMES FROM HIS DARK FEET AND HIS FEATHERS. HES NOT AS BIG AS THE OTHER MEMBERS OF THE FLOCK BUT DOES MAKE A NOISE THAT COULD EVOLVE INTO A CROW. ONE OF HIS FLOCK MATES IS AN RIR, AME AGE, WITH A...

12 WEEK RIR ROO OR HEN????

This is my 12 week old RIR. Im worried that he may be a rooster. His comb and wattle are bright red and seem to have developed over night. In a flock of three, he was always the second biggest but now hes almost twice the size of the other two. The feathers on the back of his neck look almost...

    To Quarantine or Not To?

I have three 11 week old chicks - RIR, Ameracauna & Plymouth BR. I just purchased two 6 week old chicks, a Buff Orpington and Favorelle. These were bought from McMurray and shipped to me. Do I still have to quarantine them for 30 days or only until the other three start to accept them? The RIR...
