He is supposed to be. He came from My Pet Chicken. I doubt we will get away with keeping him in city limits… especially since a retired judge just moved in behind us. 😬😬😬
He hasn’t crowed yet but I know it’s coming.
We will rehome him if we get a complaint. 😭
That was my fear. I really hate to rehome any chicken (why I paid to have them sexed) but I worry a rooster also wouldn’t enjoy being in the covered run all the time & wouldn’t survive the dog. Yikes.
-6 week old from My Pet Chicken, purchased as female
-Suspicions: I don’t have experience with this breed and only got one but I don’t see the double lacing I expected. He/she also has chunkier legs than all other 10 chicks we got and is also the only one with red at the base of his/her comb...
No lesions that I could see but she did pant for a while and sounded raspy. She got back outside and rolled around in the misters and dirt (mud) for a while and then seemed much better. I’m wondering if laying the first egg in a long time plus at the heat of the day (it got pretty hot here today...
I found our bantam silky next to the water bowl and her entire beard and face were wet. She is breathing but she was making an odd sound like she was coughing up water. Now she is panting with an open mouth. Is there anything I can do to help her? I think she may have had her whole head...
She didn’t make it. I came home from school pickup and she was having a seizure. I got her in a sink of warm water and she relaxed and passed while I was talking to her. Omgosh… my heart. 😭😭😭😭😭
So the vet came out and did an x-ray. There was no egg there and no obvious signs of anything abnormal. She did see pockets of food or possibly some more of whatever she is passing, possibly in digested OS. They were not obviously inflamed or large. She felt like Dawn would be able to pass them...
She had a HUGE (this picture is about half) poop this morning (for her!) and it was almost SOLID pieces of rock/grit/oyster shell. I wonder if she got this stuff really impacted and her GI track was cut when it moved? Some of the pieces seem sharp. I saved some for the vet to look at.
It’s gray, like gravel, so maybe it is oyster shell. I wonder if she ate too much and that stopped everything up. I haven’t offered her that since she came inside.
Iscared for the vet tomorrow, both the bill and the prognosis.
I run a small business from home and had a sale tonight to raise...
I will get a pic- it was definitely more like a grain of sand - clearish and hard.
She is sleeping most of the of the time now. My son has been doing research and thinks the moldy feed may have poisoned her. He read about feeding epsom salt and warm water. Would you advise trying that?
So her poop is much more brown than green which seems like a good sign but when I checked for worms I found what look like little whitish/clear crystals (like sand or silica)? Is this just sand from her normal free ranging or is this some sort of urine by product I should be concerned about? Any...
I started her on safeguard paste today. She gets her 3rd drench dose of corrid tonight. I think I’ll soak her again tonight too. She is still getting coconut oil.
Other than getting to a vet which I’m working on, is there anything else you’d try?
If it’s worms, how long before I should see an...
Update: I was able to get her to eat egg yolk mixed with her drench dose of corrid for the day and that perked her up. She went after the grit like she hadn’t seen it in a month. She got another dose of coconut oil as well. I have not dewormed her yet. I made a mash of fried egg, feed, honey...

Should I try deworming her at the same time as treating with corrid? I don’t want to overload her system but I don’t see much improvement & she isn’t eating much any more.
