Help! Should I get rid of rooster?

It has been my experience that if you identify aggressive behavior in a rooster directed at a human they can NEVER be trusted. It isn’t anything you did, just genetics. Say goodbye in whatever humane way you choose with full disclosure if re-homed. There is a gentle rooster out there somewhere...

    VERY Aggressive Rooster: Please Help!

Sorry about your rooster but if you are afraid, can’t enjoy your chickens, and cannot have visitors why continue to let one fowl control your happiness! I put up with that for about 3 months then big boy had to go with full disclosure. I have a lavender Orpington now that I could trip over and...

Comment by 'PennysHennys' in article 'The Scrap Bucket - a MUST for every chicken keeper'

Good article! You have answered questions I fear some folks have been hesitant to ask. My chickens get "goodies" each day from the scrap container. When they see me coming with the little pail all 32 line up at the fence trying to be first in line for treats!. An additional benefit besides...

    Best Chick Lot Boot

Good idea! I don't always look forward to taking the extra time to put on long boots, probably why I have worn out my Sloggers. Those things are great but they will wear out. I use them year round and only go for the long boots if it is raining heavily.

    Best Chick Lot Boot

Thanks for the link! I totally agree with you on good socks! Sorry for the late reply, life gets in the way. I especially like the tread design on the boots, I am out in the frosty mornings walking on slick leaves, mud, straw, you name it and REALLY want to avoid a broken anything. Have a...

    Best Chick Lot Boot

That is so funny! I must not have edited the title very well, it was intended to say best chicken lot boots. Still confusing I know but you read it!! My current shoes are not boots at all but garden shoes that I can jump into in a second. They are Sloggers. Great shoes but I have 2 pair and...

    Best Chick Lot Boot

Not sure where else to post this so here goes. I consider safe footwear to be important in the daily care of my flock. I am tending the chickens about 4 times a day, sometimes more. My issue recently has been that I have literally worn the tread off of my "barn shoes" and have nearly slid...

    Boy or girl?

Thanks chickenlittle21. Yes, but I have another chick almost identical and it is usually those 2 that exhibit this behavior. Probably just need to cool my jets and let nature take its course. I will know in a few weeks for sure. It just seems I am in the pasture with them so often I can't see...

    Boy or girl?

Please ignore the boo boo above the beak, one of the big girls didn't want this one in her space. Eight weeks old. Thanks in advance for your help!

    Bedtime Routine?

MommA2K, The doors I have are "PulletShut". They have a light sensor that is automatic or you can set it for certain times. The door closes slowly, then if someone dawdles and doesn't make it in the coop in time, it opens again in 1 minute to admit the stragglers. They very quickly learn to...

Reducing "For-Sale" Coop weight without compromising Quality

How adorable! A Fort Knox chicken coop! I personally like the supports on the legs, sort of balances the whole look! Maybe leave the "heavy" wood on the bottom frame for stability? Great job!

    Bedtime Routine?

An automatic door was tops on my must have list. They are pricey but sooo worth it. I still check to make sure the doors are closed just in case. I attached bicycle reflectors so I can just shine my flashlight to make sure all is well. Like others have said, your flock decides their bedtime...

Curly wing tips cuckoo Marans chick

Thanks! I think she is cute as well and seems very healthy and active. Shucks, even if her feathers stay this way she will be welcome. Hopefully her "kinks" will straighten as she grows.
