I have been looking at them. Thinking of ordering some runners because no one around me raises them, and I've had bad luck with hatching eggs, and maybe some Saxonys. Did they have a minimum order, and how were the shipping prices for anyone that has ordered?
The spotted one is a fawn and white Indian Runner. I think the brown duck is a mallard, Both look like hens to me; a male mallard would have a dark head that would eventually turn green. I think male fawn and white runners also have darker heads, but a darker brown, not green. Then again, it may...
It has been my experience that roosters that grew up together can get along if there are enough hens (it can also depend on breed of the roosters, too, as some are less tolerant of other males being around). My biggest issues with roosters and fighting have been between older and younger...
On Metzer's website, it says that they should be easy to remove. It also says one of the reasons they use the tape is because it will come off on its own within 14 days if not removed by the owner: http://www.metzerfarms.com/SexingBirds.cfm?CustID=4669051
I don't think those are Welsh Harlequins. I'm new to ducks, but I've been doing a lot of research on breeds trying to figure out what the 4 I picked up at the feed store are, and none of the Harlequin ducklings I've seen had black tails like that. Maybe they are Silver Appleyards or some kind of...
Good luck! I saw a post about that swap shared on one of the Virginia facebook groups I'm in; they may have runners there, but if not, maybe consider ordering ducklings or eggs. Sometimes, if you want a specific breed, you gotta do what you gotta do. LOL
Unlucky picker, are you on facebook? There are several Virginia based chicken/farm groups on there that I'm a member of, and I feel like there are at least several members who do raise runners. Even if not in your local area, they may be able to send you hatching eggs.
I picked up 4 ducklings at a local Tractor Supply a couple weeks ago, and I think the two black ones, which I originally thought to be Cayugas, are actually runner ducks because they are starting to stand up very straight. Out of the 4 I have, they are my favorite because they are so laid back...
That actually might help. :) I could run it by my instructor if you're interested and don't mind responding to some interview questions. The list of questions is provided by the professor, and I could email them or paste them into a private message.
Thanks. That is an excellent suggestion, but...
Hi, guys. I have recently gone back to school to work on a Human Service Bachelor's degree, and one of our class assignments is to interview someone from a different culture and write a 4-6 page paper about the culture, the interviewee's background, the interviewee's responses to the interview...
Yeah, if you got them from the bantam bin, I'd say that's most likely what they are. I got several birds from there last spring as well. It's fun trying to guess at what they are. :) I wound up with a really cute golden neck D'uccle hen (that I thought was a cochin as a chick).
I won't say...
Those colors would just be called red and white. It's possible they're cochin mixes, but they could be cochins, just maybe from hatchery stock or non-show stock. They have the cochin tails, but their feet aren't quite as fluffy, and they don't look quite as round as most of the cochins I've...
Are there any actual birchen varieties in large fowl cochins? I've never actually seen any, so I'm wondering how to go about getting the genes needed for true lemon blues. I was looking at the cockerel I mentioned this morning, and he actually looks like he may have a tiny bit of chest lacing...
I have an Easter Egger cockerel that looks almost exactly like Legs, and he also took ages to get all his feathers. I wonder what it could be that makes them feather so slowly.
