They don't eat fruit, but our dirt is very weird here, so could be that. they eat a TON of greenery around the property though of course. Otherwise, they are their normal selves. I will give them a little coconut oil today, thank you for this information!
Chick is in coop outside with access to run during day. No heat provided (we are in MA). We are still feeding medicated starter feed and yes, lots of grit always available sprinkled in coop as well as run. Crop doesn’t seem to be different than others. Some have been having BLACK poops...
Last few days I’ve noticed one of our 2 month old ISA Browns has been kind of straining to go to bathroom. She will squat like she’s going to go a few times in a row, or consistently for a minute or two, and sometimes little pieces come out, and sometimes it’s nothing. But other times it seems...
*** Has anyone tried using heat tape around PVC pipes for waterer that doesn't need to be plugged in for heat? my husband works as a construction project manager and he says they use heat tape around pipe to keep them from freezing in the winter -- we may try this option!
Thank you for providing this information and a picture. I have the same waterer, and have tried to fill it right in the coop, but every time I put the lid on, it seems to overflow getting the shavings wet, so I haven't quite figured it out yet!
Please let me know which waterer you use in the winter — we are in Massachusetts, so does get below 0* occassionally, so need something heated. I had a huge steel waterer and had hoped to buy heated base for it, but turns out the steel waterer filled, I can’t carry from hose up to coop when...
Haha! They do run and chase bugs all the time! I’ll keep my eye on them, just make sure they don’t peck at each other, and hopefully they won’t keep doing it! For smart birds, they sure are dumb sometimes haha!
So odd! Totally fine this morning! Did they just stop on their own? They must have seen a bug or something on the other side of the hardware mesh, although I couldn’t find any signs of it anywhere!
Thank you! I just spent a half hour investigating coop and run — definitely not feeder or waterer, so must have been them trying to get to a bug or something on the outside of the hardware mesh.
