Bad Experience with Bresse Farms in Pontotoc, MS

We were lucky enough to find a bresse breeder in our own state (TN). They're now almost a year old, pure white (with blue/green legs) and wonderfully pure. The original "bresse" we got from Justin were sick (nearly half died within two weeks) and his replacements were not pure. I cannot...

Massive decrease in egg output, and 24-hour old eggs with blood vessels and beating hearts....

Yikes. That's blood curdling. I suppose that's possible. I have cameras in the coop, in the nest box, under the coop, in the run, and all around the area outside the run. There's always a hen or two in the boxes so I cannot see under them. I suspect if a snake did manage to get in, the...

Massive decrease in egg output, and 24-hour old eggs with blood vessels and beating hearts....

I've had a similar experience last year and found dozens of eggs - and evidence of many eaten ones. However, they've been locked up most of the time since this started.

Not that I have noticed, but I most of the gathers are by my kids. I'll check myself in the AM.

Massive decrease in egg output, and 24-hour old eggs with blood vessels and beating hearts....

These eggs are absolutely, positively less than 24 hours old. There is zero chance it's older as we remove the 4 or 5 eggs daily. That's the confounding thing. How are they so advanced in their development in such a short amount of time. Is it possible they're incubating INSIDE the hens...

Massive decrease in egg output, and 24-hour old eggs with blood vessels and beating hearts....

About 8 weeks ago, I noticed a pretty dramatic decrease in eggs (from 12-18/day to 4-6 per day) from my 20+ hens. The hens are anywhere from 1 to 3 years old. I have 8 roosters. We're using a locally provided non-GMO layer pellet feed (Homestead Feed). We've been using this feed...

Bresse farms miss leading sales tactics…

Sounds like you got lucky. We ordered 32 American Bresse. Two died in the first 24 hours. It's been about 10 days, and we've lost 6 more. One had a wildly deformed leg. Those that died failed to thrive, but now even the normal sized ones are becoming lethargic. Treating for coccidia with...

[VIDEO] croupy/raspy/snory breathing in one of my hens...

Just a quick update... None that are visible upon inspection She is eating and drinking fine. None that we can feel. In fact the crop was almost empty by this evening (we withheld food for the day). It's all we had at the moment. We did give her a dose of fenbendazole for worms - I...

[VIDEO] croupy/raspy/snory breathing in one of my hens...

Less noisy but a couple of sneezes. And more gurgling than squeaking... We put medicated chick starter in her tote last night (I didn't know wife and kids did so until this am). Crop is about half full.

[VIDEO] croupy/raspy/snory breathing in one of my hens...

Thank you both for the replies. She's only leaking from her butt (nothing orally). Mainly water but some solid. Happens both when she does it purposefully or if she flaps her wings, and drips even when holding her. It's clear to brownish tint - so nothing really abnormal in color or...

    Chicken not breathing well, phlegmy

That's actually how I found this thread. I just posted my own under the sub forum and after doing so, this thread was recommended. Mine is here... https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/video-croupy-raspy-snory-breathing-in-one-of-my-hens.1579744/

[VIDEO] croupy/raspy/snory breathing in one of my hens...

Went by coop tonight and heard what sounded like squeak toy. When I found her, and went to pick her up, she squirt out almost entirely liquid. Her crow is muffled, and her breathing is like in the video. As I was holding her, she was dripping out her rear. She has an appetite, and no other...

9mo Brahma rooster suddenly dies... What could cause this?

Thanks for the link. I'm in TN. I called UT Knoxville, which is only about 2 hrs from me. Their necropsy dept says it's a $240 fee for a single chicken. I was hoping, given the seriousness of communicable illnesses, that maybe it would have been subsidized, but at this price, I'm going to...

9mo Brahma rooster suddenly dies... What could cause this?

Just 8 hours prior, he was strutting, crowing, eating, and mating with the hens. Absolutely no sign of distress or illness. I have cameras in and around the coop, run, and back yard. At 2:10, a racoon was spotted, on the ground, outside the run. The rooster was on the awning over the...

    Non retracting manhood on drake...

And it's gone... We cut off all the scabbed/necrotic area. It retracted immediately. A bit of bleeding, but nothing concerning. Added some Neosporin to the cloaca. Now we wait and see...

    Non retracting manhood on drake...

I just read all 8 pages at this thread... I guess knowing what to call it helped find others with similar problems. Kids are going to catch him again, and we will cut off the necrotic parts. Wife is an ER doc so she has the proper tools.... Fingers crossed.

    Non retracting manhood on drake...

Our 4 month old drake has a spring-like man part that isn't retracting. About half of it is dark crusty brown, and it looks necrotic. Is there anything that can be done to resolve it, or make him more comfortable? That said, I can't say that I've noticed him behaving any differently than...
