I have four, 11 month old hens, 18 that are 9 weeks old and another 6 that are 5 weeks old. When will it be safe to put the 6 week olds in with the 9 week olds? The brooder is getting smaller and smaller by the day and I have no other place to put them. And what's the best way to bring them...

I got 6 at out local TSC just today. They had all pullets and Peking ducklings. The pullets were RIR, Buff Orps, Black Australorps and Gold Laced Wyandottes. Girl there said they'd be getting new ones every week at least through March

OKAY...so I'm at work and TSC is just down the street. Off to lunch I go and just for the heck of it stop at TSC. Well I have 6 chicks sitting in a box with my desk lamp keeping them warm as I type this. Yes Chick Days at TSC is alive and well here I'll post pics and more info later...

Wish I would have this article 10 weeks ago. Sure would have killed 2 birds with 1 stone and made building the new coop and run alot easier.

Thanks for all the compliments. The coop is actually 8 x 8. I gave the floor 3 coats of porch/floor paint to seal it and make it a little easier to clean. It was cheaper than linoleum. I'm actually hoping to use a small step into the coop instead of a ramp, but I'll have to wait and see how...

If you're looking for something compact, inexpensive, secure from critters/pedators and could be made portable this may be worth considering. Nesting boxes were added to the end with it's own separate door. This housed my 5 Production Reds very comfortably.
