So, this little fellow just appeared in my flock today, it's not one of mine, I am unsure if it wandered over on it's own, or a well meaning neighbor found it and knew I have chickens so tossed it over the fence assuming it belonged there... But it has made itself quite at home in my vacant...
I hatched out 2 of my 3 Cemanis (first ever attempt at hatching, so.. yay?)
It's looking like ive got 1 roo and one pullet, which is alright with me, as I currently have no roos in my small backyard flock. Id like to keep him, and am allowed to have 1 crowing poultry, per the laws in my area...
I have a golden laced wyandotte a year and a half old maybe? that I THOUGHT was a hen, but I have recently caught her trying to crow.
I know it's not completely unheard of for a hen to crow, but I wanted to get your opinion.
I am not sure if she's laying... I have an easter egger who is old...

Ive got a Frizzle Cochin bantam that seems to have some issue with her ear/cheek, it's swollen and whitish on the right side of her face . She doesn't act like it is painful and is otherwise behaving normally, and none of the other chickens she is housed with have any symptoms. Does...

I have a 7 mo old Silkie who started laying late in November, she was laying around 5 eggs a week up until January when she went broody (wouldn't leave the nest box, sat on anything remotely egg shaped) this broody spell lasted about a 2 weeks before she finally seems to have snapped out of it...
I have a frizzle cochin bantam that I purchased recently, we have had her about 2 weeks in a quarantine coop with one other bird I purchased at the same time from the same person (a Japanese frizzle).
Neither of them have shown any troubling symptoms until this morning (I saw the cochin...
I had to get rid of two of my "hens" when they turned out to be roos and would like to replace them.
I know I am supposed to quarantine any new birds for 30 days to make sure they don't make my current flock sick, but I'm not sure of the specifics of this. I have built a small quarantine coop...
