I got 4 chicks (~1 week old, one RIR hen and 1 EE hen) the week of March 17. Well, they still haven't started laying yet. Is there a problem or are they just slow? Does having 2 roosters cause problems? 'Cauz I have 2, but I havent seen any fighting of anything...
Just wonderin'
Ok, so I did end up w/ to roos. But one doesnt act like a roo at all! He crows VERY rarely ( I think I've heared him MAYBE 3 times), never fights, and is the sweetest chicken of the bunch. On the other hand, the "man-ly Roo" is EVIL!!! But, the 2 dont fight...Is it b/c they were raised...
I was just wondering, can a double yolked egg sucessfully hatch 2 chicks? I doubt it, but was just wondering? Will one embryo absorb the other yolk? Or what?
When my roo was young, he was quite the cuddly lil fellow. Now, ever since him and his 3 girls have moved outside, he has just become wild. I see him every day, but I can't catch him anymore. What is the best way to tame a roo? He is also becoming a little aggressive, but not too bad.
Any advice?
I go them from TSC about 9 weeks ago.
The one in the front is the hen under the most question:
And is this guy a brown leghorn???
And is she a RIR or a Production red, or something else?
W/ her Astrolorp sister...LOL
TIA!!
Last time I posted I got such mixed responses, so here are some older pics. Now Maybe its easier to tell.
Cleo- Astrolorp???; Pullet
Diva- I have no clue; Pullet *excuse her neck, she was pecked and the fethers are just now comming back out*
Lucy- RIR; Pullet
Nuget- Brown...
Is it ok to move my ~month old chicks outside permantly? Is in the mid-to upper-70s durring the day and 50s at night, with the sun shining durring the dayand little wind.
They will have a heat lamp in the coop. Will they stay under it themselves, or would I need to lock them up next to it at...
Does anyone have a pic of what a 3-4 week old Dominique chicks should look like?
I got one for the feed store and I swear I think the guy sold me an emu... It just looks weird...
Last week, I bought 2 chicks from TSC. I'm going again today and I think I'm going to get 2 more. Will it be ok to but them in the brooder together? They are only a ~week apart.
I'll probably be builting a bigger brooder though, since the 2 I have now are in a tubberware container they won't be...
I'm looking for a bator, preferbly under $50 that I can use to hatch some chicks (chickens only, not quail or anything else).
Also, it doesn't need to be big; 20 egg capasity would be more than eough (in reality, 10 would be pleanty, LOL).
With one that small, would it be better to just build...
My chicks are still eating mostly their grower feed, but yesterday and today it was warm so I took them outside to run around. They found all sorts of little bugs to eat and had a ball trying to figure out what to do with a worm they found.
It's raining and cold now, so I dug up a nice hunk of...
OK, I got LOTS of pics that are better than the other ones I had. Any guess on breeds now? They came from TSC.
Also, I need some help naming the girls (I HOPE their both girls...)
Enjoy!!
I saw where someone bought some "BBR OEGB's" at TSC. They look IDENTICAL to the ones I bought, and I was wonderig if someone could tell me what it stands for?
TAT!

I got them out of the "assorted pullet" bin and Tractor Supply. I couldnt resist!
Theoreticlly, they COULD possiable be bantams b/c there were some really small grey chicks in the bin too, but I don't think they are...but I could be wrong..
Hello everyone! Im new here, but not so much to chickens.
I used to have ~15 chickens at once, but over the course of 2 years, we lost several to predators, then just gave some away. My last 4 we taken by a fox last summer.
Now, I'm ready to get back into chickens!
I'm looking to start a SMALL...
