I know I’ve seen this come up many times with the new 1588’s bring off from a known calibrated thermometer/ hygrometer. In case you didn’t know you can calibrate your 1588 to match your known good therm...
first off let me say I've never had anything but great experiences buying and selling here on BYC.. that said, since last summer I've seen a lot of folks getting into the egg business., we have gotten several batches of shipped eggs from folks who don't know what they are doing. Wrapping eggs in...
I added some new stock to my Black coppers last year and it appears it may have been a mistake..First hatch of those out this year and about half have reddish/brown tint around the face and eyes..Anyone seen this before?
We have been approached several times from local feedstores about hatching big stock chick's to sell to feedstores. They seem to want a local supplier i stead of ordering from hat hatheries.Like RR, buffs, australorps etc. Anyone else do this?
I have not fooled with chukars in over 20 years and I cant remember what size racks we used in the old 1202 sportsmen back then..Do you all use the Pheasant/Bantam size racks for chukar eggs? Im thinking the quail racks were too small? Is that right or will quail racks work? thanks
First off, never, ever say "I did well with shipped eggs last year" Ive shipped and bought shipped eggs for about 10 years now..Last year was good for shipped eggs..Got my first batch of shipped eggs last week of this year..Recieved early and packed very well so I had high hopes..Well I guess I...
this year we are hatching out a lot of chicks of the same breed but from different lines so I need to band them..Were do you get your bands, what sizes do you use when banding chicks etc..Thanks
I have three pullets from a hatch of wheaten ameraucans that ended up with some dark leakage or ticks..What do you think causes this? This hen is by far the worst but two more have it to a lesser extent..Sorry for the bad pick, best I could do at the time..
Several years ago I worked up a nice flock of Bill braden and Kelly Cratty line Cuckoo marans..I was very fond of that line of birds, they were the darkest laying cockoo's Ive came across..Well I got a case of the stupids and sold them a couple years ago and have had no luck finding that line...
Just curious, we have a couple of 1588's. One is the newer type with the digital display..Ours reads 100.0° but is actually about 98.6° according to a Cooper, a brinsea spot check and a type K thermocouple thermometer so I trust that is actually lower than the displays says..
Do you think this...
Sorry I don't have a pic right this second, I will this evening..I have three nice wheaten ameraucana hens. hatched them last year from bought eggs. Respectable breeder, I know they are good birds..Now I want to say Im very happy with them and will keep them regardless, im not complaining I just...
I live in a very rural area..So Ive had to deal with predators all my life..This winter I lost a few to owls that tore into a lot(Ive since replaced that particular run of wire with welded wire) Of course the chickens I lost were all very good breed wheaten ameraucana hens ... Every time Ive had...
Im retired from the gov't, not the USPS but I have friends who work there..I have bought oh I don't know 8-10 doz shipped eggs this year and I have to say all in all the handling has been just awful. Far worse than its ever been. Almost every shipment, probably 80% have arrived with broken or...
I know shipping eggs is a crap shot to begin with but this year has been rough. Getting smashed, torn boxes. 20%-35% hatch rates which is not normal for me at all. More than half the eggs have been showing up with detached air cells. Just got a shipment that had 11 out of 14 detached. Packaged...
Im looking at building a cabinet hatcher/incubator with shelves sized so I can use my 42/egg turners in it for incubation if I want..Ive pretty much decided to go with a standard coil heat source with a back up wafer and a PID control/RTD PT100 sensor for the temp control. Im kicking around the...
It seems to me that I get much better hatch rates from shipped quail eggs than I do shipped chicken eggs..I just hatched about 70% from a bacth of 120 shipped eggs..Last year about the same. It always seems to be about 50% for shipped chicken eggs for me..Anyone else noticed this?
Starting on a new brooder construction soon..Thinking of using ceramic heat lamps(with appropriate base's) for heat with wafer thermostats..How do the ceramic bulbs hold up to constant on/off ? Thanks
