They are on a layer feed and calcium. They have a dust bath with DE in it. My BO def had lice, I knew by checking her vent, but I don't see any today. Her legs look kind of irritated but not sure if that's normal or not? Her poop is on the runny side but again as I'm new to chickens I'm not sure...
Anyone local able to assist? I don't know what I'm doing. I adopted 4 hens from Cody, the Chino guy that sold the farm and moved. My favorite one didn't make it a single week before dying. She wasn't of laying age yet. I now have one young one and 2 laying age hens. I get an egg a day, from my...
Oh goodness. I couldn't afford 10 acres. The price is riding steeply here. Our house was purchased in 2016 for 420k and is now worth 650k+. My best friend got 2 acres off coyote springs for 65k. They are county, not pv so she can have chickens for days.
I have a buff orpington and two australorps. But just discovered that prescott valley ordinance forbids chickens unless you live on an acre or more. And even then, only 2 chickens per acre 🙄. I checked my HOA but not city and now I'm like well damn let's change this.
I'm in prescott valley too! I would join you to help change the code on this. Especially after having covid issues and not being able to get food for my family, it should be pretty easy to have a leg to stand in for wanting chickens. I can understand no roosters, but what's with the 2 chicken...
Hi! I'm in PV too and I just give a big middle finger to the city. I would like to change the ordinance because it's insane. So if you have an acre, you can have 2 chickens OR 2 horses. Ya, chickens and horses are bundled into the same category! There's a massive difference between horses and...
I would test it and keep an eye on it. See how everyone reacts to each other. Do it a little bit every day, until they are fully "weaned" onto each other.
My ducks like to eat the shells. I thought it was the weirdest thing when I first saw them bust open the eggs and run around with shells in their mouths while the other tried to get it!
Good to know. There is a place nearby where i got them as ducklings, and they have tons of older ducks too. I will have to check it out. As for locking them up together....I have a large dog cage that my duck sleeps in....other than that they have the backyard...which is big for a Southern...
Yesterday morning I had to put my Rouen to sleep. She was attacked by a racoon that tore one wing off and left the other broken. She was in such shock that she just stood there. The blood loss was bad Broke my heart. The doctor said that surgery is possible but she most likely will not survive...
