    Sexing Barred Rocks

Thank you. I sure hope so. The kids already like them, so I was worried I would have to start a rooster club.

    Sexing Barred Rocks

I got these two pullets a few days ago, and they are still in quarantine. The lady I got them from said theyare a couple of months old, but they are pretty big, so I'm guessing 3 months. Everything about them looks girly, except that they both have a couple of longer, curled tail feathers. Any...

Fox attack right out my Door!

I rarely see a fox, so I am not too familiar with them, but I would guess that you saw a coyote. I have found them to be generally unafraid of dogs, and they are brazen. If you stand and watch a coyote, they will stand and watch you. They normally will not turn and leave until you go in the...

putting chickens in open top pen??

I have 6' chainlink, and my Ameraucanas and EE have flown out. I now clip one wing on all the chickens as a precaution. It's better to take the time to do it now, rather than find out after they have flown out. Oh, and remember that after they molt, you need to clip again. I forgot and the...

Totally stopped laying, is this normal after heat stroke

My chickens all completely quit laying because of the heat for a couple of weeks. Once they got used to it, they have resumed laying, but their production still isn't quite what it was.

Had to put a LOCK on my chicken coop

OP - It seems that you have a somewhat good relationship with the kids, so have you considered just telling them not to take your eggs? Explain to them that if they want eggs for eating, you will give them some, but that you don't want your eggs broken or stolen because you use them for food...

Need help with Blue Wheaten Ameraucana breeding question

Thanks for the reply. I was afraid that was the answer. I may have to get a couple of blue wheaten pullets, but I will still probably breed some EEs from the blue pullets. I just love the color of my blue wheaten roo so much, I wish the girls were as colorful.

Need help with Blue Wheaten Ameraucana breeding question

I have tried researching past threads to get an answer to my question, but haven't run across it yet. I have a beautiful blue wheaten Ameraucana roo, but haven't had any other pure Ameraucanas, so I have never done any hatching. I now have a couple of blue ameraucana pullets, but I am curious...

i have a rooster now what??

Not all roosters are mean. My little roo is 1 yr old, and he has never been mean. He doesn't hop up in my lap to be petted, but he does follow around for treats. I am on 4 acres, but my nearest neighbor is very close. Luckily they haven't complained about the crowing, because he starts at...

    can chickens see good?

If I understood correctly, the enclosed area with roosts is always dark. Is that right? At their age, it is normal to sleep in a pile on the floor, but if the enclosed roost area doesn't get any natural light, they may not be able to see to roost in the evenings.

    Prolapsed Bird

Do a search on here for prolapse. I have seen some threads about chickens with prolapse where they have been treated and recovered. Good Luck!

    Clip their wings?

I clip all of my birds' wings (you only clip the flight feathers on one wing on each bird), because it is a matter of safety. Mine are in a 25'x 35' 6-ft tall enclosure, and I lost one EE pullet who flew out and was eaten by my dogs. I also almost lost my Ameraucana rooster the same way, but...

Brabanters and Spitzhaubens--The Differences PIC HEAVY!

Well, Michiele beat me to it, but I was going to say the same - let me know if you want to get rid of anything. I am close (Coweta), and would love a Brabanter (or Faverolle).

    I need a second opinion?

That seem's like a very red comb and wattles for a 8-9 week old. I would guess roo, but I don't have any cochins.

Still confused!!! Boys or girls or a BO??? UPDATE PG 2

I think that is a lot of comb for a six-week old BO, so I guess roo. On the Maran, my little cockerel had a lot more comb even at 2 mos, but those appear to be some really big legs in the last picture, so I say it may possible be a roo as well. I was given 4 new 1-mo old pullets a couple of...
