Has anyone purchased from Fleming Outdoors the "Hen House-Automatic Chicken Coop Door-Basic" ? I have seen alot of reviews on this site about the Ador1 pop door but I am concerned because we have a covered run and a lot of shade around our coop door. I liked the idea of Fleming's coop door...
I would like to add some electrified fencing to temporally enlarge my run. I have search this subject and Premier1 and Kencove have been mentioned in the past. I was wondering if anyone has had recent experience with either fencing? What are the pro and cons on electric fencing? Would I have to...
Last night as I was locking the pullets up I noticed one of the Welsummers seemed to have ruffled feathers/missing feathers just in front of her tail. It was dusk and I couldn't see her very well. This morning I left for work before sunrise and opened the pop door and all the pullets were...
Yesterday I came home from work and found 7 eggs in my roll out nest. I found two more small light brown eggs on the floor of the coop
A total of NINE eggs from my 21 week old pullets My two leghorns have been laying almost a month. Six eggs in one day was the most in one day up to now. Not...
My leghorn layed her first egg this morning
She had been a very nervous, pacing, balking chicken every morning. Running around the coop, checking out all the corners, egg boxes....balking the entire time. Finally this morning she was quietly laying in the nest box. This is what she...
My pullets are 17 weeks old and I am getting ready to switch to layer food. The feed mill in my town sells Kent products. For poultry products Kent makes "Home Fresh" feeds. They recommend at around 18 weeks to feed "Home Fresh Extra Egg 16". Any one use this product and have an opinion?

This is my 8 week old speckled sussex. Hoping this chick is a pullet but a little concerned may be roo.
I am considering purchasing the 48 inch tall Premier Poultry Fence. We are building a predator proof covered run but like the idea of having some portable fencing. One of my concerns is flight over the fence.
Any pros and cons to this fence?
Anyone have experience with this fence?
I have seven week old chicks. They are in an 8' x 8' coop. We put a poop board at 3 feet and staggered roosts at 4 1/2 ft and 5 1/2 feet. When we put the chicks in the new coop we removed the poop board and made a ramp to the 3 ft 2x4s that had been holding up the poop board. We removed...
My dh was working on the attached run to our chicken coop. We had just put in an automatic pop door in the coop. My dh covered the pop door with a board leaving an inch on the bottom and an inch on the top. The scrap of wood nailed over the pop door area was to keep a coon, dog or coyote from...
I have 7 different breeds that are about 3 weeks old. The three cuckoo marans are quite a bit smaller and less feathered than the other breeds. Is this normal? I ordered pullets so they should all be female chicks.
My dh and I are planning to move our 17 three week old chicks to their new abode this weekend. The chicks are currently in our insulated garage w/ 250 watt heat lamp over their 3' x 4' brooder. I have been moving the heat lamp up every week since week one. They are making so much DUST. They...
I have an 8' x 20' shed (with an 8' x 8' coop area inside). We are building an 8' x 35' covered run off the coop end. We have purchased the 2"x4" horse fencing for the run area. We will be burying the fence at least 18 inches deep. As recommended on this site I want to have the bottom 3 feet...
I am a newbie and this is my first chick order. I ordered from Cackle Hatchery in January for delivery of chicks in April. Has anyone out there had experience with Cackle? Are they dependable about e-mailing prior to delivery? If you ordered from Cackle did they send you the breeds you ordered...

Would it hurt to feed a chicken the hedge apples or hedge balls? Do they even like them? We have them in our woods and some are half eaten by the deer so I thought maybe it would be ok to give to a chicken??
I am a new member but have been "creeping" (not registered) the backyard chicken site for at least a year. I have learned so much about chickens. I grew up on a farm and we had chickens but I paid them no attention. I was much more interested in our horses and cattle. Now I am an old...
