    Blue Cochin...what is it?!? I can’t tell!

Ok thanks. I think roo too, but still no crowing and I am not seeing saddle feathers? Is it because they mature slowly? He is 4mo and all my other roos of other breeds his age are crowing and look very mature. Can anyone tell me why he is so behind?

partidge silkie roo & polish pal need a home

I have 2 roosters who need homes. They are best pals--1 partridge silkie rooster and 1 white crested black polish. Both are 7-8 months old. I have had excellent fertility from both. They are best friends, so they should stay together. When I put them to bed every night I always find the...

    I love my roosters! But..

Last March I bought 6 chicks from mypetchicken.com, who quickly expanded into 10. I bought an eglu cube and I've been very pleased with it, as well. My husband and I have to move to Northern California for his job, and I'm trying to find the best way to rehome my roosters. I have a very...

    mypetchicken.com's DIAPERS or CHICKEN PANTIES?

Oh, I get it! Hmm, I don't remember the diaper's liner being removable. I must not have been paying attention. Do you have a preference? I'm leaning toward the panty.

    mypetchicken.com's DIAPERS or CHICKEN PANTIES?

Oh, now I'm confused because the panty is described as (quote) "This panty is different by having a permanent liner sewn in, made of durable vinyl." The diaper I bought also had a clear plastic liner. What's the difference?

    mypetchicken.com's DIAPERS or CHICKEN PANTIES?

Does anyone have experience with mypetchicken.com's chicken diapers or poultry panties? They are really similar, and I don't know which model to pick. I bought their chicken diaper a few years ago and it was a bit too small for my RIR, so I had to modify it. But I was pretty pleased...

    Sick chicken and possible bumblefoot

That looks like bumblefoot to me. Feed store antibiotics like duramicin-10 will generally not help with bumblefoot. From my research, the best course of action is an rx antibiotic like baytril and a local antibiotic on the foot. Also, soak the foot in a saline bath until the scab softens...

    Administering Baytril AND a wormer?

I have a 6 month old Dominique with a limp. After I took her to the vet, she said she was developing bumblefoot and gave her an antibiotic injection along with an Rx for baytril mixed with the water. However, Freckles is underweight (4lbs, 3oz), so I suspect worms. How can I safely worm her...

    Scrap Catcher

I really want one, but I won't spend 40 on it! It looks like a metal magazine rack...maybe I could improvise a cheap one and wrap metal coat hangers around the gaps or something! I too am tired of cleaning up sticky dirty produce that the chickens won't touch. But I think with a little...

Local hatching eggs on Central Coast-California

I'm looking for hatching eggs on the California Central Coast. I'm located in Creston, Ca. and I'm willing to drive to pick them up. I would rather get local eggs to ensure freshness and avoid shipping costs, and my bator only holds 7 eggs. I'm not too picky about breed . . . Or species. I'd...

moving to Creston, Ca. -- need predator proofing ideas

I thought that might be my solution, but I thought it would be much more expensive! I there a link to a post of page explaining the process? I was looking for how to set one up and came across a post that required running 120 volts through wiring, and since I am not looking to seriously...

moving to Creston, Ca. -- need predator proofing ideas

I've always had backyard chickens in a house with a fenced backyard. However, I'm moving to a rural 15-acre spot in Creston, California and I'm sure there are bobcats, cougars, and other big creepy crawlies out there. I have an eglu CUBE with an extended, dig-proof run and I've never had any...

    two dove dads?

They hatched one!! I didn't want to mess with Estefan (the dad) too much, since he seemed a bit perturbed when when I poked around in the nest. But here is one of the proud papas! You can see a little leg poking out. I had to be at work all day yesterday, so I'm not sure if the chick hatched...

    button quail deaths--swollen feet. help!

The male has a small poo ball on one foot, but both legs are swollen. I'm not sure if it appeared before or after he fell ill. I soaked his legs in a hydrogen peroxide and warm water bath, but the legs are so swollen that I can't get it off without breaking the skin. I don't know what to do...
