    Fisher Cat in the neighborhood

ga*chick* : I was wondering the same thing...what the heck is a fisher cat.. It's like a little wolverine with a little less bad attitude. Note, I didn't say no bad attitude, just a little less. They like chicken.

Talk to me about bees, please!

You should be fine. The bees in all likelihood will leave you alone unless you're in the hive. I do wear a hood, but no gloves and wear a regular shirt and jeans. I presently have two hives here at home and two at my parents house. My dad is allergic and has had no problems. Bees will...

    bear

The lesson that I, and many of us, have learned is not to keep food in the coop. I used to store it in a big metal trash can in with my birds. The bear that visited was far more interested in the chicken food than the chickens. Bears like easy meals. Chickens may or may not be easy, but...

    Chickens and Turkeys?

Thanks everyone! Lots of information out there. . . more than I ever dreamed. Now to sort it all out.

    Tick control--what to use??

Quote: How noisy are guineas. . . If you're in a residential area, you're neighbors will hate you and curse your family for six generations. There's a farm about a mile from me with guineas. I can hear them fine, clear as day, all day long. Doesn't bother me personally, but some of...

    Chickens and Turkeys?

Okay turkey people, I've raised chickens practically my whole life. Turkeys, no. Let's say I wanted to get a start. Do I need new facilities or are they okay together?

    Who's tired of the killing?

I know what you mean. I've done in my fair share of attackers. I didn't like it. I eventually decided to go with an enclosed run. There are simply too many predators around me to feel good about free ranging (bears, foxes, hawks, dogs, skunks, possums, the occasional bobcat or coyote). My...

Guess what my favorite flowers are?

Quote: The nice thing about Scotties is the Great Dane attitude in the half pint body. Max tried to go after an Alsatian once. Spunk, I think is the right word. Well. . . the right PG rated word.

    Yet another predator attack, supersized!

No problem, I'm glad to see I'm not the only nut coloring the local wildlife. One note, if you're going to just shoot it. . . either one shot it, or get someone who knows what their doing to do it. An injured, p.o.'d bear is nothing to be messing around with.

    killer dog

We had an English Setter when I was growing up that was like that. She was also a bit gun shy, didn't like loud noises. So Dad, took her last kill, tied it around her neck and tied her up outside. . . during a thunderstorm. She didn't go after the chickens again. . . of course, she wasn't...

    Yet another predator attack, supersized!

Our game warden uses and recommends paint balls. I know it sounds crazy, but it works. I know a nice florescent yellow bear who can back me up.

    Yet another predator attack, supersized!

Yes, hot wire! But on house current. The pulse current from batteries/solar is pretty freakin' useless against a bear.

    Yet another snake post....

I kinda think a nice big black snake is worth losing a few eggs to if they keep the excess rodent population down.

    Yet another predator attack, supersized!

Wow! I had a bear issue a few years back. I know it's still around, but it seems to have lost interest since I don't keep food in the coop or run anymore. That's what they're mostly interested in. I lost chickens to the bear, but it was kind of accidental. They freaked, he swatted, they...

    Call Me Chicken

Where to put this, it's not a game or a joke per se, but it's fun. I had read this a few years back and just found it online. I don't know if ya'll have read this before, and it's a bit odd that this cranky Southern Jew guy would recommend this but. . . this story has always struck a chord...
