About 6 years ago I moved to the country with lots of land around me. My first thought was "ohhh I could have chickens!" Well the hubby wasn't having anything to do with chickens...he did everything he could to talk me out of it. I let it go.
Then we divorced, my boyfriend then moved in with...
Hi there
I have 24 Red star Layers and in my other coop I have White Silkies
I would LOVE to have a few Polish Frizzles hens. I have looked all over my area and cannot find anyone who has them, knows of anyone etc...
I would also be interested in other Frizzle breeds as well.
Would also be...
Looking for a White Polish Frizzle
How does one go about getting one of these. I have looked around the local farms, local fairs (asked many chicken owners) and all I get is a *shrug*
no protocol here?
I looked over all my hens (including the dead one) and they all look healthy, nice colour, none of them look sick. Even the dead one shows no signs of illness.
?
4 weeks ago I had a chicken go broody on me (under a year old red sex link)
I put her in the penelty box for 48 hours with food and water and she joined the others and all was fine. She wasn't laying though.
Then a week later I found her dead under the roost ??????? I checked her over, no...
I have a similar situation...two mother hens (sat on each other's eggs)
chicks hatched and they both looked after them for a bit...then the "mean" mother hen started fending for herself, and being mean...so I separated her, and left the 4 chicks with the "nice" mother hen. The nice mother took...
Thanks!
the nice mother is having a bit of a freak out, but she can see and hear her chicks through chicken wire...I just want the two bator chicks to integrate with the other chicks...I just went in and checked and all 4 chicks are cuddled together...I do have a brooder lamp they can go under...
I have two silkie hens that went broody, they hatched chicks and I hatched chicks in the bator? So the chicks are all the same age (8 weeks now)
I tried to integrate the bator chicks with the hen's chicks...with the two mothers. At first it seemed to be ok, and then I caught the mean mother...
Fred's Hens :
Since the term Red Sex Link or Gold Sex Link isn't a breed, nor is the "formula" shared, that is, what the parent stock was is almost always unknown, there's a lot of confusion in speaking about them as if all Red Sex Links were the the same. They are not. It simply means that...

lol maybe eh.
They look pure white and doesn't have that smooth finish like the other eggs...like it is missing a coat of something...hard, but feel a bit rougher than the browns
thanks...
I got 11 red sex links in April. All laying brown beautiful eggs.
I got 13 more red sex links in July and 9 to 10 of them are laying now, but I am getting this from one of the hens.
Why are they white?
????
When I came home the chick was dead
on further inspection, there was something wrapped over the chicks head causing it to be imbobile...it was like a cord of some sort over the top of the head and down under the beak. I wonder if this is why it couldn't pip (couldn't move it's head)
so sad
Two broody Silkie hens hatched some chicks
we hatched some from the same clutch in the incubator
When we saw the mother hens out in the yard with their chicks we felt bad for the 3 in the brooder and thought we could integrate them...chicks all the same age.
When we put them down with the...
OK
Thing is I am not seeing the beak...so wondering if it is at the wrong end...I don't want to touch it anymore, but I don't want it to die either...
the wet paper towel is loose around it, but not covering the opening.
Thanks so much!
The temp is 99.9 and the humidity is 75 right now.
Chick is still moving around.
This afternoon I have to head out and nervous about leaving it for so long...probably back around 7 or 8 pm *sigh*
So maybe gone a total of 5 hours.
Will just make sure everything is good...
no I cracked the air sac, but a bit of the egg shell broke open into where the chick was and the bleeding was there...it stopped, it is back in the bator on a wet paper towel...the chick is still moving.
stress.
