I can have the neighbor and friend doctor her while i am gone. So you would suggest keeping here isolated the week while we are gone and have them doctor her. What is the sign that she can reenter the flock? Should I wait until she is complely healed or until the wound scabs over. This is my...

    Adding to flock

I currently have 5 sex link that are 5 months old. I am adding threee plymouth rocks that are approximately the same age. What is the best way to introduce the new birds to the flock. My plan was to let the sex links out to free range and let the plymouths lose in the run so they can get use...

I have 5 sex-links 3 black and 2 red. Woke up Thursday to my first egg and had another one on thurday afternoon. Since then there has not been a single egg. Is this normal when hens first start laying eggs. I just assumed that once they started they would just continue to lay on a regual...

Red Sex Links (how to tell the difference between a roo and pullet?)

I have six sex link chicks 3 red and three black. They are approximately 4 1/2 months old. Within the past week one of the hen has started showing signs of being a rooster. She is crowing and aggressive towards the other chickens and definitely the most dominate of the six. How do you tell...

    Will this roost design work.

Quote: Would it be ok to put the roost 18" from the wall and then have 2 2x12 so a total of 24" of poop board under the roost. I am just thinking this would be a larger platform in my coop but cant think of a better way to do it. My other option would be to place the roost on the short ends...

    Will this roost design work.

I have a 4x7 coop and I am planning to put in the roost and poop board today. My plan is just a 2x4 12" away from the wall about 4' high with a 2x12 under it. My question is that the 2x12 will be directly above the entrance to my external nesting box. Is this going to be a problem? From what...

    Rhino line coop floor

Has anyone ever used a Rhino lining type product on a coop floor. I have used Herculiner for a truck bed once and thought it would be great to put on a coop floor to protect it and to allow it to just wash it out. Any thoughts on this? -Garth-

I am thinking that lag bolts and 4x4 might be my best choice and then just use joist hangers for the 2x4 cross braces.
