    Help with D.E.

x2 it has to be food grade DE. i use it to dry things up in the spring or if there is a huge amt of poo in their coop. i don't use it all the time and i haven't had any issues with bugs/pests.

missing a ton of belly feathers...broody??

do they stop laying when they're molting, because she just layed...she's not crabby toward me, so it makes me think she's going into a molt, but it's just her belly missing feathers. hmmm

missing a ton of belly feathers...broody??

i just went out to inspect our small flock, and after picking one of my girls up i realized her belly is missing a ton of feathers! some have been broken off, but the majority have been completely plucked. i inspected her closely for mites/lice and found nothing (however this is our first go...

    egg problem

i had the same issue for a bit. i added more calcium and gave them less table scraps and they bounced back within a couple of days. i'll still get one from time to time, but not like i was.

i don't have any. it must have happened last night because i went back to their coop and see that it happened up on their roost--they all fight for this one spot up there at night, looks like someone wanted her to move from it. the bleeding has already slowed (when i first grabbed her it was...

bloody comb...what do i need to do?

okay, did the cornstarch. upon further inspection she seems to be missing a big chunk of her comb in the back...like one of the others just snatched it off! but there is blood coming from all over the comb it seems. she appears fine, a little weirded out that she's in my basement. should i just...

bloody comb...what do i need to do?

i just went out to check on my pullets, and one is covered in blood from what appears to be coming from her comb. i can't tell what's going on, but her whole comb is swollen and wet from blood. none of the others seem to be injured. i brought her into my basement, and tried to clean her head...

ok, thank you! i had been searching, but for the wrong thing! i think it was just intestinal lining (i had been searching blood clots), but it sure seemed like a lot. i have been checking on them all morning and they all seem just fine. whew! no one told me having chickens would be so stressful

    Do chickens pass blood clots?!

i went to collect eggs this morning and noticed some blood in the nesting box. upon further inspection i found what looks to be a blood clot (?) about the size of a golf ball under their roost. it's not liquid, more meaty i guess. sorry for the graphic description. all of my birds appear fine...

    blood on eggs

my 6 pullets just started laying recently, and one is having a very hard time. for the first week or so she only layed soft eggs, and never in the same place. recently she only lays eggs in the run, although she spends most the morning running in and out of the laying boxes. and the last several...

just laid a partial rubber egg...

was she sick with something already? is that why you have her on meds? i have had a couple of soft shells from different girls, and by what i've read on here it's normal to get a few rubbery ones. i think it means you need to up their calcium...i just make sure to offer oyster shells and will...
