We had chickens a few years ago and have since moved but are considering getting some more.
The one thing that I hate is having to go out first thing in the morning to let them out and then go out to put them to bed again....but we have a lot of coyotes around so the girls had to be safely...
So the one with the smallest comb 7 wattle/least amount of red on her face could be a Black Orp? (3rd, 6th & 7th pic down) Her feet are more white than pinky, but she does not really have that round Orp look she is kinda tall and dorky....we call her Lurch (poor thing!)
Or the 2nd, 3rd, 5...

I think the yellow feet are Jersey Giants, but my Twin girls are identical and only one has the yellow feet. Maybe they are a cross, but I am mostly curious about the larger black one who does not look at all like the Twins.
I ordered 3 black australorpes. Two of the three look identical (the Twins), except that one has yellow feet. The third, Lurch is a fair bit larger that the twins and had very little in the way of comb and wattle. They are all 21 weeks.
Can anyone help me identify? Just curious.

I have a serious ant problem and need to spray or dust the perimeter of the house. The trouble is that my chickens occasionally get out, not often but that they can needs to be a consideration...and we let them out of the run in the late afternoon to eat up some bugs.
I have got to stop the...
My Campbells are three and a half weeks old. Getting some feathers but not all feathered out yet.
I have created a play yard for them outside that is secure and safe from predators...for day time fun. The last few days have been in the upper 70s and they have really enjoyed the new freedom of...
I have 4 khaki campbells that are 2 and a half weeks old. I just saw on another thread that they should be getting off the heat lamp soon. I understand the 5 degree drop per week for chicks but can someone tell me about ducklings?
At what temps can they go outside? I adore them but man are they...
I am thinking that this is normal as they are beginning to get some little bitty tail feathers....but, they are two weeks old and when we had them out to play today, DD and I noticed two have chest stubble and look a little balding. At first I thought it was because I placed their waterer inside...
When ever I come sit by the brooder my ducklings come to see what I am up to. Usually I just put my hand inside and they nibble on my fingers and my ring.
What treats are appropriate for this age? I want to encourage them to come to me but I don't want to make them sick!
I adore ducks. I grew up having mallards and I just love their silly antics. They have fun personalities and are fun to just sit and watch.
I am new to chickens though. I have 6 two weeks old chicks and 4 two week old ducklings. The ducklings are far rowdier and messier than the chicks, but...
Wifezilla...you are BRILLIANT!
My 4 little ducklings make such a wicked mess! I never knew they could learn how to drink out of a waterer like that...and I love your hardwire double decker brooder idea.
With 4 week old chicks I think being checked on 2 times a day would be ok. If they could check on them 3 times it would be better.
The girls will likely need to change feed and water on each visit and bedding once a day...depending on what you are using, but you will be better able to advise...
I have 6 one week old chicks and 4 one week old ducklings. When can they go outside to run around, ( 20 minutes of supervised play time). I think the ducks are ready, but not sure about the chicks.
*Edited to rephrase my question...is it ok to take them out to a sunny area on my lawn to play...
