So sorry I didn't reply sooner, but I did repost w/ some newer pictures. If it is wetpox then it takes about 4 weeks for recovery. Is that your timeline now? Also, mine are starting to show spots on their feet, did yours do this also? What about your adult chickens, any signs there? Admittadly...
Hey ya'll! Was wondering what folks thought of this growth on my 8 week old baby chick. There are four chicks total and all have 'wart-like' growths on their beaks, now one has a spot on it's foot. They were all natuarlly hatched in the backyard and I feed them Dumor medicated starter for the...
I, also, have made a post (yesterday as a matter of fact) about this same issue. I did include some pics, take a look b/c it sounds like we have the same issue.
Ok, there's another thread on here, but the lady who posted had no pics, so it's not getting much attention. My chicks have the same thing she's describing so I've got several pics. Not really sure what momma is, but the daddy is a white silkie (who thinks he's quite the stud, btw). Somebody...
My female mallard (3-4 months old) was recently attacked by some stray dogs that squeezed in the yard b/t the slats in my privacy fence. She has a deep puncture wound on her chest. I cleaned the wound w/ providone, apply a generous amount of antibiotic ointment and packed the hole w/ the calcium...
I was going to give it a couple of days and see how she reacts. If she seems to have an infection or starts to act worse I'll get some duramicine (a basic antibiotic) and give the same dosage that I would for my chickens. I just wanted someone more savy w/ ducks to give me their ideas too...
Thank you. she's moving around a bit in the box i have her in and keeps watching me as i move around the kitchen. unfortunatly i lost four silkies (i have a silkie in a box next to miss maynerd on the kitchen cabinet w/ a rear-end missing a little skin & feathers), and three baby chicks. i hate...
One of my ducks was attacked by a dog and was badly injured w/ a small patch of missing feathers/raw skin on the back of the neck and a deep puncture wound on it's chest. I cleaned and packed the puncture w/ calcium alginate dressing, provodine and antibiotic ointment. We've made it through two...
Agreed, I brought him in and got him as comfortable as I could. He's pretty confined, I don't want him moving around to much and pulling out the paking (though so far he hasn't messed w/ it....). I was able to get him to drink some water. I know he's in a lot of pain, what about some enfant...
Had some dogs get into my chicken and duck pen yesterday. To make a long story short: 4 dead silkies, 1 dead chick and 2 mia chicks. Got one silkie inside w/ a wound from pulled out feathers. I have two ducks, one was not injured, but the other one was, found a bare spot and a hole in his chest...
The predators are a little white poodle and a red mini weenie dog. I just happened to be in the backyard, hunkered down in the grass when I watched them slide under the fence. Shame I didn't have my shovel handy or I'd took care of that, but instead, I jumped up waving my arms and hollering. I...
Thanks everybody! I did exactly what everybody recommended, cleaned it and put some antibiotic ointment on it. Yes, the wound resembles the picture (unfortunatly w/ a lot of sticky silkie feathers). She doesn't seem to be in to much pain, she's moved around a time or two, has drank some water...
Thank you so much. I'm thinking a cat? One chick had puncture wounds under it's wing (it died while I held it) so I'm thinking that a 'coon or 'possom would have at least ate something of them. They seemed to be toyed with. Anyways, went back and read a post that some one just put here about her...
Something got into my pen and killed all my silkies except one. She's missing a chunk out of her backside. I've trimmed the feathers and flushed it clean w/ water. She's taking water from a dropper and seems to be doing well........how do or what do I do to clean it and help it heal!!!
I have a black & white neutered male cat (Mr. Toots) and he was very active in the 'raisinig' of the chiks and ducks so now he lays around in the runs over looking his kingdom. Even the Roo's leave him be! lol!
