I have ten chickens - nine hens and one bantam rooster. I had a similar situation that two hens suddenly started picking on one of my seasoned hens. I thought it was because they were sensing she was getting older or sick and were trying to take her out of the house. The way I addressed it...
In Minnesota, we have two feet of snow on the ground and it is 6 degrees right now. While I don't mind winter, I am really over these massive snowstorms. We need a break for a bit.
We have had a tremendous amount of ice and snow this year. While my chickens are kept inside of their coop during this weather, I need to find something to get the ice down. Is there any options for something to use similar to salt that is safe for my flock that I can use in their pen. thanks!
This was a great article - thank you for sharing! My chickens are more than a provider of great eggs but also my pets so this has been hard to watch. I am going to work through options to develop my quarantine area to help control some of this. Thank you!
My hens have been living together for two plus years and all of the sudden, some of the more dominant have become so aggressive with my other what I would say easy going hens. While they have been nasty in general, they are really aggressive towards one chicken who is not sick - just older...
She has been fine for quite some time and then started to sit down a lot and then it went to laying down. I initially thought it was Mareks but my vet ruled that out plus no other chickens were effected. Her legs move and they are warm so they aren’t broken. I really just don’t know what to do...
I have been trying in excess of two to three months to help my chicken walk and stand. I have given supplements, made a sling, built a wooden path to help her sit up, etc. with no success. She has been living in different dog kennels to protect her from the other chickens so she is living in...
I am not exactly sure how old she is because I did not get her as a chick but I would assume at least 2 because of the timing I have had her. Did you leave her in the basket, I am assuming in a sling, the entire time? I have two kennels I have been switching her between. One is with a sling...
I did chat with my vet about Mareks and he said because this has been going on awhile and she did not have other Mareks symptoms, it wasn’t that and I would have had a larger loss in my flock.
I have a full grown hen who stopped walking and now she won’t stand. I have her on supplements and I made a hammock to help her stand. She still eats, drinks and poops well. Any ideas on how I can help her regain her balance.
She is so sweet so I am hoping to get her well again.
Hey there! I know this is an older post but wondering if you ever found a solution. I have a chicken with exactly the same symptoms and want to try physical therapy. My vet said it isnt Maercks because she would have worsened and died. But she also won't walk or stand but is doing better.
Any...
My chicken has lost her ability to stand. I have been working with my vet over the past month and because of the timing and lack of other symptoms along with no other chickens have symptoms, they do not believe it is Maersk's. She is eating and drinking; she is able to move herself around the...
My rooster had something similiar and another Backyard friend recommend the Neosporin and it worked great! I would put it in the lower part of the eye once a day (usually at night) and let him blink a few times - took a few days to see some results but then it was so quick. He had no...
Honestly - no it did not work. Someone also said that I should put tin foil in the areas that they are getting in. We ended up moving them all to a back up coop that we have and put mice poison out. We are in the process of vaccuming it out now and found where they are getting in. Been a...
Hi! Not sure if another bird can mourn the death of another one so I thought I would reach out to see if anyone else seen similiar things.
About a month ago, our RR Rooster died. He was getting old and starting to show his age and honestly, I just think he died of nature causes. We have one...
thank you so much!! Question - is there any risk to the chickens with peppermint? I am also going to try the bucket trap too. They are making me crazy!
Unfortunately cats are not an option. But definitely something that I have considered. I just recently took on four young RIR that a farmer I knew didn't want anymore. I am hopeful they find a new sport - catching mice :).
