Hi everyone, It's been awhile since I have posted. I was blindsided in my marriage about a month ago. We are in the middle of a family crisis. I apologize to those of you that have contacted me or that I have obligations to.
Please keep my family in your thoughts and prayers
PS in the...
I wish I would have known you were considering meat birds. I raised over 700 last year, and have started 400 already this year. Our third shipment should be here in the morning. I do raise a few CX for the customers that prefer them, but the best meat bird around imho is the freedom rangers...

OMG woman what say you? *shakes her by the shoulders* snap out of it Have you lost your marbles?
I plead temporary insanity. It's the rain, all the rain doing this to me. Makin me crazy ....
Rain, rain go away, come back some other day ..... lalala lalala lalala ...
Believe it or not, but there are 10 Dels hidden in that picture.
Can you find the roo?
The look on the girls faces is priceless. Check out the one stuck under his tail. If the girls had been standing up it would have looked like they were taking him to the volcano to make a sacrifice.
Well, after seeing this pic you may not want to share. It sure looks like a pile of dead Delawares. I swear there were just enjoying a dust bath on a nice sunny day!!!
I love Gonzo to death, but why in the world is he laying across the top of all his ladies????
Hehe. Silly roo!

I solemnly swear that Suede is PERFECT and that should I find a way to get a son or grandson of his, I PROMISE to LOVE it, PROTECT it and COOK for it...and tell him he too is PERFECT TOO
I'm going out to buy some blueberry bushes right now.............where's that darn shovel.
They are not even a year old. They were purchased last August as day old chicks. They are in my mixed layer flock so I did not really wantthem to go broody. That cuts down on egg production. Added incovenience is that they are in a hoop house not a coop.
I'm so darn jealous. I want my own BBS Orp roo. If anyone has eggs available please let me know. I love to make blueberry pancakes!
On the Del front, I have 2 broody Dels from S&G poultry. Both girls have been sitting on nests for a few days now. It will be interesting to see if they...
I've hatched about 500 Dels so far this year. It has been pretty close to 40/60 male/female. From what I've read the males embryos are a little heartier and more likely to hatch. I'm wondering if this why we seem to have a higher ratio of males sometimes in shipped eggs. It will be...
I have a muscovy hatching cute little ducklings here right now. So far we have 2 little quackers, and at least 14 more eggs to go. All of her eggs are a bright white color, so I'm hoping we will have a very nice hatch. The Dels are in the same pen and are completely in love with all the...
My girls are VERY loud. They are over 400 feet from my house and I still know what's going on in the coop. Of coarse it does not help that 2X in the past week they have started making a rucus in the middle of the night. The other day it was 2am, and last night it was 4am. Ugh! When I got...
We had an exciting call today. A very successful local CSA contacted me about all the Dels. The are looking to replace their current Isa flock with a heritage breed bird. She is interested in taking all of my pullets that do not meet standards for my breeding flock. I have 40 birds that are...
My Dellie babies are roosting on everything that does not move. Even me if I don't watch out. I laugh when I open their brooder. I usually have at least 6 dive bomb me looking for anything interesting. Nothing like a Dellie greeting party to make me smile. Gosh I love these guys.

I'm so jealous. BBS orps are the other breed I have been wanting for over a year. I held off as Rhandi had them also. As she is not doing birds anymore I am on the hunt.
Well the grass is finally green here in Michigan. All the neighbors are getting the lawnmowers out for the first time and attacking all the dandylions. We went for 40-50* days to 80* days overnight. Crazy weather, but the girls seem to be enjoying it.
I have about 50 Del chicks from a hatch a few weeks ago that I am holding back to evaluate as breeder stock. I don't plan on evaluating until at least 12 weeks old. At that point major flaws will be culled, and then another 8-12 weeks to narrow down to the best 5-6 pullets. I hope to do this...

I had to laugh Cyn because that is exactly what I did. I picked him up and very firmly scolded him on his manners. I then carried him around the rest of the time I was outside. As much as I wanted to laugh, we always need to reinforce that we are top of the pecking order. Does not...
I've noticed that Gonzo my Del roo has been acting a little strange with me the past few days, basically lighly pecking at my bum while I'm crouched down in the Del pen. I've been starting to get a little concerned that he was starting to show "agressive" behavior as he has never pecked at me...
