I guess my Rooster question is now a moot point.

Sold 7 of my 11 week old Delawares (including the 2 roos) for $80 tonight. He wants me to keep them for 10 days while he builds a coop.
Now let's just hope they don't start crowing in the next 10 days.

So,
Here's a cool announcement;
While searching the web for Delaware information, I kept coming across the "official" Delaware Club website of http://www.delawareclub.org, but alas, click it and it's a dead link. I got to thinking there ought to be another website just for our Delaware Chickens. So I bought it!

I've got a wee bit of web savey, and figured I could make a website look half way decent. Here's my first attempt.

I would like to see a breeders page on it. Ya know, like people could come to the site and see who is actively breeding and selling. Just one suggestion.

Finally! I only have pics of this guy right now--I ran out of time and light. I would really appreciate your thoughts on him. Is he a keeper? He is about 30 weeks right now.

He has a wonderful temperament.There is some yellowing going on but my old Del did too. Cynthia's don't have nearly as much yellowing and I don't know if that is part of the breeding or if it is because they are a little younger. Those boys will have their pics taken soon.
He doesn't have a name yet. I don't like to name them until I decide to keep them, easier on me that way.

Germaine, some of the yellowing is genetic with some lines. Some yellowing can be attributed to the sun exposure and some to the age of the bird. Some lines I've seen seem to have much more yellowing at a younger age than I've seen in mine (which seems to be almost nil).

I think that could be considered a 5 point comb. There is a little point just before the blade that would be #5 in my opinion. He's a chunky boy. The tail is somewhat too high, but then, Ike's is a bit higher than the 40 degrees they want it to be. (I think it's 40*).

I thought I would chime in on this "Dellies are quiet" topic. All I can say is WHAT?

Cannonball has not shut up since she was 12 hours old! Fattie screams like a banshee. They are NOT quiet.

As for the crowing thing...Thor starts yelling at me between 5:00 and 5:20 every morning. Severus does not start crowing at me until around 7:00 - 7:30 if I have ignored Thor and they are still inside. lol

I thought I would mention that Thor has scared me nearly into heart failure. I looked everywhere for him, called him and nothing. He always comes to me when I call him. I found him 20 minutes later, having walked past him twice. I now have a huge hole about 3' w x 4' l x 1+' d in what used to be the flower bed in front of the porch....Thor decided to dig it up and make his very own dusthole WITHOUT his women. He was lying there snoozing in the sun, covered in dirt and well hidden from the food stealing wenches. Unfortunately, Cannonball followed me when I was looking for him...so she went back to the backyard, got Fattie, Athena, Bella, Luna and Molly and took them to the front where they assaulted my poor boy and took over his dusthole by nagging him until he got up and let them have it. WENCHES!

A shame these boys get so little respect for all they do for these thankless hussies.

There really is something real about the Dellie mind control. Kathy and I have talked about it and there is no way either of us can let them go. We just love our Dels!

How could they not be loved. They are fun curious chicks, little tagalongs teens, and stately, majestic and kind as adults. The hens never get mean with the other hens but they aren't bullied either. And they lay the nicest big brown eggs and lots of them.

The first and only bird to ever try to walk through the front door was a Dellie! Right now I have this big guy penned with a bunch of young teens. He does not pick on them but just struts around and keeps order. What a lover he is.

Lady Hawk... What are you putting in your Dels feed? Mine are sooooooo quiet..... LOL! Actually they are. Odd how each is different. Maybe yours just knows he is boss. But my hens never squawk or really talk much. Just mind their own business and lay in the sun.

I have 1 six-week-old Delaware in my mixed flock. I got her from my local feed store, who gets them from Belt. Her name is Fiona and boy is she feisty!!!

If she gets separated from any of her same age sisters (BR, Cornish x, Brown Leghorn), she starts with this very loud "PEEEEEP! PEEEEEEP! PEEEEEEP!" Especially if she can't find Meatwad, my Cornish x. They're best buddies. I wonder how Fiona will be when Meatwad goes permanently "missing" in 2 weeks...

She is definitely the LOUDEST of the girls! Sure hope she grows out of it!

My girls are VERY loud. They are over 400 feet from my house and I still know what's going on in the coop. Of coarse it does not help that 2X in the past week they have started making a rucus in the middle of the night. The other day it was 2am, and last night it was 4am. Ugh! When I got down to the barn in my jammies everything was okay except for my heart.

These guys are going to give me a heart attack. I sure wish I could figure out why they were sounding off. Anyways, even under normal circumstances my Dels are always talking to me. My roos were fairly quiet and did not crow until 9-10am until the Javas testosterone started kicking in. Now at 5am I have 4 Java, 1 Ameraucana, 1 Wyandotte, and 2 Del roos doing their best to wake the entire neighborhood up.
