Mostly maintenance this weekend. Harvested beets, zucchini, yellow squash, Persian cucumbers, kale, and chard. Planted another row of corn,as well as grape and Early Girl tomatoes. Also planted white sweet potato and harvested papaya. Dang I'm tired.
Not much today but yesterday I pulled out the snow peas, harvested more cabbage, chard, kale, and arugula. Planted seeds for pole beans and zucchini. Last average frost day was last week. Rained a couple days off and on. Expected more but the systems thankfully stayed north and dumped on...
Checked on potential wind damage at the community gardens. Had a brief spat of rain today. Yesterday I harvested broccoli, cauliflower and snap peas. Have kale and schard to harvest soon.
Truly envy y'all with seasons. Today was a typical So Cal "winter" day. 60 degrees, scattered clouds but mostly sunny...no breaks in the seasons. Planted the last of my onion order, thinned my beets, planted seeds for cilantro and dill. Was gifted with arugula starts so planted those as...
Almost feel guilty posting this, yesterday was registration day for our local community gardens so I worked doing signups. later i was able to plant a few rows of onions, along some arugula transplants from another gardener, and lemon grass. Today I finally got the Christmas lights off the...
Today I added to and turned the compost, Prepped a a row and planted spinach transplants and broadcast seed, planted a couple potatoes and more snap peas...
(All we are saying, is give peas a chance!:love).
Harvested kale (about a bushel), a dozen peppers, an equal number of cheery tomatoes...
Update: Broke down and went to the local nursery to purchase compost as well as snow and snap peas. New gardener may need some guidance, wanted to plant tomatoes and peppers today without first conditioning the soil. Will keep a weather eye on him.
Thanks for the well wishes! Lots of water, steroids and antibiotics knock this thing back.
Today in the gardens I'll be harvesting kale, a few remaining peppers, straggling corn, cherry tomatoes and various herbs* for folks at work. Signing up a new gardener to the Community Garden today...
Little behind posting due to illness...anyways, last week I screened my compost, worked it into my plots and planted bok choi, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, and Swiss chard. Rain possible by Friday.
Well, last Sunday I pulled out a couple rows of corn and squash. Turned in compost and planted rows of Swiss chard, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, and bok choi. Next week is snow peas!
Today I harvested more corn, chard, Anaheim peppers, curly kale and a pathetic looking little pumpkin whose destiny is simply decor now. Temps keep fluctuating, just when it seems to go to "normal" seasonal temps a pressure system moves in and its back in the 90's. Anxious to plant the "cool...
Not much today in the garden today. Tomorrow is picking corn, kale, Swiss chard and peppers. Waiting for temps to drop to turn in compost. Wish I could bring the girls in to pick through the compost.
Today I deep soaked the garden. Harvested some corn. Weather here is unpredictable. One week is still summer the next is the coming of fall. 80+ degrees today and dropping into the 60's next week. Can't plant cool season crops until late October at the earliest.
Watered yesterday. Sort of garden related, tonight I spoke at an Eagle Scout Ceremony this evening. The young person being honored did his project in the Community Garden I belong to. This 13 year old built enclosed message boards, new signs, tool racks, built a table with a shade cover then...
Watered heavy yesterday. Knew I would be working late today. Prediction was for high heat, into the 90's, end of this week. Santa Ana winds are coming and that dries out everything. Can't really do much more during the week unless I adjust my work schedule
Turned contents of one composter. Harvested the corn, kale and peppers that I was feeling very guilty about. Lost a hill of crook neck squash, probably to cut worms. My late pumpkin planting finally is showing fruit. May be in time for Thanksgiving, if not then Christmas. Our local "Self...
Absolutely nothing today and I feel guilty. Had to go into the office for half a day, ran some errands, came home and started feeding cats, dogs and birds. Tomorrow, hope to harvest corn, kale and peppers.
