    Light-colored Melanistic Mutant pheasant?

@007Sean Any ideas which melanistic subset these little ones are yet? Possibly green?

    Light-colored Melanistic Mutant pheasant?

I absolutely will, as your input is always a treat. It's interesting how different all of my melanistics look....there's quite a variety. Hoping to get pictures of my younger, chocolate-colored group soon. Just as a side note - I actually find these guys to have superb color.....this picture...

    Light-colored Melanistic Mutant pheasant?

Just a little photo update on Blondie - he's definitely the outcast of the group.

    Light-colored Melanistic Mutant pheasant?

Agreed, the males are more visually interesting. I suppose I should be grateful. Hopefully these newest additions will add a little color to the bunch. You remembered me after a few year hiatus? I'm truly impressed! :hugs I'm really only active on BYC's Facebook group now, since there's more...

    Light-colored Melanistic Mutant pheasant?

Most definitely! Hey, we're learning together. 😃 Well isn't that just lovely. After looking at reference photos of young females, I now see lack of wattles/bald patches almost completely. And Blondie also has prominent wattles, though difficult to see.

    Light-colored Melanistic Mutant pheasant?

Update on my oldest pheasants - @007Sean , is it normal for females to have very prominent bald patches on their faces? I've been observing them extensively today, and two appear how I (in my inexperienced state) would envision a male to look at this age. Just wondering, though I know the...

    Light-colored Melanistic Mutant pheasant?

Uh oh! I'm in for a ride with these guys! The oldest ones are already full of attitude and hissing.

    Light-colored Melanistic Mutant pheasant?

@BantyChooks No worries, I brought this stuff up! But since you created a finch thread, I'll continue my chatter there. Oh my, I take it your pheasants are pretty docile? :D I love success stories....not everything you read online that's "impossible" is actually impossible.

    Light-colored Melanistic Mutant pheasant?

Ahhh, lovely choice! What mutations did you manage to get ahold of? Too bad we aren't within attainable driving distance, seeing as I have an influx of young zebras my breeding pairs hatched out. Nice mutations with interesting recessives, too, but I'm giving up on my breeding program for the...

    Light-colored Melanistic Mutant pheasant?

I simply can NOT coerce my parakeet and cockatiel to eat greens, or anything healthy, for that matter. If it's brightly colored, it's scary. But I'll never stop trying for their sakes! Silly rascals don't know what's best for them. The finches are much easier and less picky.

    Light-colored Melanistic Mutant pheasant?

@BantyChooks Great information, thank you! I've heard rave reviews about Coturnix eggs. But as far as cute factor, my heart is set on Buttons....plus they seem relatively low maintenance. And then another part of me wants Bobwhites for their game-iness. Long story short, I want it all and need...

    Light-colored Melanistic Mutant pheasant?

Sounds exquisite! Am I ever making out like a fat rat. :D In all seriousness, I'm looking into getting quail eventually - is care/housing difficult? (I'm sure it varies by type)

    Light-colored Melanistic Mutant pheasant?

After years of foiling birdnapping attempts, I'm willing to call a truce.....you may have a couple pheasants, but only if in return I'm allowed a couple of those quail disclosed in your signature. :D

    Light-colored Melanistic Mutant pheasant?

Long time no talk, Banty! :frowThank you. I'd always wanted to venture into the gamebird world, and these little guys haven't disappointed. You should try pheasants....but get your own, not mine. ;) Though not as "flashy" as the traditional pheasant, there's still something subtly nice about...

    Light-colored Melanistic Mutant pheasant?

Good to know on both accounts. I didn't have access to the breeding flock.

    Light-colored Melanistic Mutant pheasant?

Great information. Kind of hoping he stays mottled/pied. And and far as black melanistics, that's alright with me - I purchased them for their dark plumage. Turns out, I managed to get my hands on 10 more chicks this morning....there was a larger variety of colorations, and most of my little...

    Light-colored Melanistic Mutant pheasant?

He's looking very nice so far. Even his leg/head feathering is coming in white. (not visible in photo)

    Light-colored Melanistic Mutant pheasant?

What a lovely bird. Already can't wait to see how these guys mature. Another question, as I'm very new to pheasants - two of the darker ones are already reddening up and developing wattles/facial patches at less than 2 weeks. These two are also quite aggressive. Is this normal for some...

    Light-colored Melanistic Mutant pheasant?

This is wonderful information, thank you. I truly did try to read up on the mutation, but there's so little to be found online. Is it safe to assume the other three are females? They're all virtually identical to the one used for comparison.
