Actually in some areas they're pretty cheap. In Idaho, buying peafowl is a breeze. My most expensive bird I've bought in the state of Idaho was $150 White peahen. She was not as great of quality for the price I bought her for unfortunately. My IB male was a Christmas gift, my 6 year old IB hen I...

I understand, it's a lot easier to get a higher hatch rate with a lower number of eggs. I let my hens hatch out a clutch as well. I don't have enough room to keep lots of peachicks, that's why I keep it a low number. Someday I'll incubate more eggs, and I won't be surprised when the hatch rate...

I have had 100% hatch rate for the past two years and I rotate eggs from day one until they start pecking.

Am I the only one that continues to rotate until the peachicks begin hatching?

The far left peachick, smaller chick is under developed. It probably died between three and 4 weeks. The far right egg shell is really red/pink. All of the shell membranes I have from successful hatches are an off white with yellow not red/pink. I'm not entirely sure what caused them to die though.

I know a few of them are on the BYC Facebook group, but they're in other peafowl/pheasant/gamebird forums on Facebook. I'm on a lot of groups on Facebook, so I still see everyone else. The BYC Facebook group doesn't have much of other poultry species though. Mainly it's all chickens. There are...

Since it's so close to 20% I wouldn't think it would make too much of a difference but it could be. I haven't had any leg problems or feet issues since I fixed my humidity issue. My peafowl have a 22% protein. I've seen people will get 1 or 2 chicks that have a foot or leg problem when the...

Wouldn't be surprised if it's because we've domesticated ducks, turkeys, and chicks more than peafowl and guineas. Chickens, ducks, and turkeys through my experience can handle a wider range of humidity compared to peachicks. I have no experience with guineas. Also what is the % of protein you...

I wouldn't do a sudden jump in protein has to be a gradual change. If it's a sudden jump in protein in can cause problems. How long did it take them to hatch out? Did these chicks come from birds in your flock? When you go to the feed store and look at the bag. Usually it will say medicated if...

Sounded familiar so I assumed it was something like this. It's great for adult peafowl. When they are 1-2 months old switch them over to that feed. Can you find this feed?

Sounds similar to my feed for my adults. My adults is a meat bird feed at 22% protein. Even though I know that's not much to go off of, but maybe this is what they're feeding them. If so it's not medicated for chicks. I need to get a new picture of the bag. The bag says more stuff on it about...

I'm saying to relax. I understand that you're probably get excited, wanting the eggs to hatch really badly, you need to breathe and calm down. I guess though that's easier for someone that's been hatching peafowl eggs for a while to say. Monitor the temp, monitor the humidity. The range that I...

2015 Peafowl Hatching Support Group - Eggs and Chicks!

Humidity for peafowl is different than chickens. The reason why I say that is because I've been able to hatch chicken chicks over a wide range of humidity while peachicks is a small range. I never weigh my eggs, I turn my eggs by hand so when it gets close to hatching I can feel how light they...

Is there a way to turn the temp down. That will cook the eggs. If not I wonder if adding water could help. Make sure temp is around 100 F. I go with 99.6 F and 60-68% humidity. Humidity can be different for others. Usually the mother is the best place for them. I would make sure they're...

I will collect one clutch from my hens for me to incubate. Then the next clutch my hens lay they get to brood if they will. If not then depending on how many I hatch will determine if I will continue incubating other eggs or not.
