Keep me updated on how the integration goes! I’m planning to add a few chicks in spring and am excited/nervous to see how it goes. Most of my chickens are pretty mellow except my welsummer. She’s a bit of a bully.
I only have an idea which chickens may have laid an egg because I have a camera in there. And I don’t have any two of the same breed so it’s even easier. That does sound like a good technique to integrate two flocks. But after years of being a vet tech I’d be worried about potentially...
I had another exciting day! Two new eggs. I think the middle one might be from my welsummer and the one on the left my speckled Sussex or white crested polish. The egg on the right is the barred rock. They are 34 weeks old now.
It was worth the wait! That’s also great advice for baking. I think my polish will lay smaller eggs so that’ll be a good way to use them and the future pullet eggs.
Ohh boy I like that idea of weighing the eggs! Thanks for the idea. I just weighed my barred rocks first two eggs. Egg #1 weighed 60 grams and egg #2 came in at 64 g. I thought they were big for her first eggs.
Thank you!! It was such an exciting day. The egg is actually pretty big for a first egg I think. I had some large eggs from the grocery store and it was a little bigger then those. I’m very excited for my welsummer to lay and get some darker eggs.
Thanks for the info! I have noticed that they are starting to go into the nest box and a couple of them seem to be getting more color in their combs and wattles. I don’t think the Sussex is close though and who knows about the Polish.
Oh man so many chickens not laying! These are my first chickens so I’ve been extra anxious to get an egg. But hearing that so many other people aren’t getting eggs either makes me feel like it might be normal.
My chickens spend most of their day in the run. Will adding a light inside the coop still help? Mine usually go out around 7 am and come in around 4 pm.
Thank guys that makes me feel better! I've been checking everyone for mites and parasites thinking maybe it was more then just a lighting issue. I gave some of the siblings of my chickens to family and theirs have started to lay about a month or two ago so I've been worrying.
It’s been a month and still no eggs. The chickens are almost 8 months old now. I’ve tried to use the method @aart recommended but can’t really tell. Is this still normal? They all seem healthy.
