This is correct. You only get one generation out of a sex link before the trait disappears. However, autosexing breeds pass the traits for generations.
With chickens, the rooster passes the dominant traits. You could technically start with either. But if you start with the Isbar roo first, you will get sexlinks.
The subject of "pure Isbar" is one that is going to be debated for a while. Once you cross out, they will be crosses (barnyard...
That explains it. Every new breed or import requires heavy culling the first year or so. I had to cull 40% of my Marsh Daisy in the first generation. And my Ayam Cemani (not GFF) required culling 80% the first generation which was hard to do since the chicks can sell for a grand each. culling...
Isbars are only single combed, green egg layers. In fact it is the only single combed green egg layer. I personally would never consider calling it an Isbar. It is very cute but in my opinion not an Isbar and should be culled to prevent contamination of the gene pool. Remember culling does...
Pea comb and most likely male by the color. Also not an Isbar but it could just be genetic defect and would normally be culled. Definitely tag the chick and do not breed.
Edited to correct. I was thinking about my Marsh Daisy at the time. This is a pea comb.
I glad you have not had the issue but the potential is in all of the early lines. Even Greenfire now admits that are their site. The early lines were too closely related. It's why Greenfire imported the new line in 2013. Personally I think that if I hatched enough the problem would...
Technically they will be barred, but if you are expecting them to look like BBS cuckoos, they will not.
The plan:
1. Cross a Cream Legbar rooster to Isbar Pullets
2. keep the F1 males and cross them back to Isbars
3. Then do a BC1 x BC1 cross to make the double barred males
Males should...
Those of us that are working on the autosexing part of Isbars, may also breed new vigor into the breed. Technically they won't be Isbars for many generations but once we are all done, we will have what Martin Silverudd did not not get to complete.
I agree. It had lots of exposure but then many had problems getting good hatches. That's why Greenfire imported a third line of them. The earlier lines had possible suppressed immune systems from too much inbreeding.
Once they have been crossed back several times they would be Isbars as I would just be completing their original intention. However, my project name for them is "Ice Cream Bars".
A BC1 is a F1 hybrid crossed with one of its parents. A BC2 is created when the BC1 is crossed with the parent that created the F1.
Not sure on the splash since I only have black and blue Isbars. I assume you would still get the barring in the chick down similar to the white sport legbars.
Edited as I found the info for the project in my notes: (I was discussing Silverudd on a different thread):
Breeding for Autosexable Isbars should be a simple Straightforward thing, just cross a Cream Legbar rooster to Isbar Pullets, keep the F1 males and cross them back to Isbars, then do a...
Definitely a splash. I wish I could tell you the sex but the Isbars are very difficult to sex. I am working on finishing the autosexing feature that was intended for the Isbars. The world needs an autosexing green egg layer.
