Janus didn't have the heart to kill such a human-looking creature. He could see the fear in the Aves' eyes. There was no way now.
But he could trap it.
Janus stared at the Aves for an uncomfortably long silence - before opening the door, slamming it behind him, and...
Janus was startled because he wasn't sure how to respond. He couldn't kill it - not now. It would have been easy when it was a bird. But it was an Aves now. His grip on his weapon faltered. He had never felt so conflicted in his life.
"You're my prisoner now," he breathed at last.
"Wait!" Janus cried without thinking, feeling for his dagger on his belt. The window was shut, but now that his quarry had thumbs, he was now worried that it would open it instead.
(That's fine, we can do that. Scratch what he just said...)
Janus eyed the closed window. He couldn't let it go now. How proud his family would be if he managed to capture it, even slay it if he had the chance. His hand moved to the door handle behind him, waiting for the right moment to leave...
Janus wasn’t sure how to respond. His mouth opened and closed several times before he replied. “You’re welcome, I guess,” he breathed. He wasn’t sure whether to reach for the bow hung on the wall or not. “Now listen. I’ll let you go, just this once, if you don’t tell anyone what happened here.”...
Janus froze in horror. The bird had turned into an Aves, the very things his people hunted. Frozen against the wall, he found his voice. “W-What are you?”
Janus sighed, undecided. He strode over to the window and opened it. It seemed to be okay and he really wanted nothing to do with it anymore - it didn’t seem to either, judging by the indignant ruffle it gave off.
