Brabanters and Spitzhaubens--The Differences PIC HEAVY!

Many of the Brabanter and Spitzhauben breeders are over there on FB and quite active.

Is the chick's comb red or very pinkish than others? If so, it's a male.

Brabanters and Spitzhaubens--The Differences PIC HEAVY!

I never heard them complain LOL! They are just like any other chickens LOL! I've got a 4x7 coop and a run that is 16 x 8 and they did fine. I have four girls. So don't read everything to gospel you see about Spitzhaubens. Just ask any breeders and you will get different feedbacks. As for...

Brabanters and Spitzhaubens--The Differences PIC HEAVY!

Sometimes you get some late "bloomers", I've had a few that had no mohawks and they got it later when they feathered out.

Ideal Hatchery.....if you are going that route, you better buy many more than you need to get a few good ones! If you don't want to spend all that money culling about almost 90 percent of the chicks to get a few good or acceptable ones, you might want to consider buying breeder's birds because...

Brabanters and Spitzhaubens--The Differences PIC HEAVY!

It appears to be fowl pox, nasty thing it is! Hard to cure and some folks would let it run its course or cull them out because it is a vicious cycle that would happen again and again. Looks like the hen with ear infection, without any photos, could be fowl pox "internally". I honestly don't...

Chrisf, I found the picture on Ebay and he said they were originally from GF so no, it was NOT imported by his owner but it is very possible that GF must have sold him the Black roo that probably was original import. We simply just don't have enough information to verify it yet.

He carries his wings too low. And he looks a bit too lean....maybe if he would stop and pose a picture with his best pose, we can see if we can help him. I don't know enough about German birds, IMO, I think certain breeds imported from there were a bit darker but lack refinement. See the...

I agree, they are good layers, IMO, and they are laying every day for me in the past month. Don't expect HUGE white eggs, more like medium sized.

The Spitz I got from Ideal are beautiful! And I am very pleased with them! I would not order from any hatchery except Ideal or if you can, get it from a private breeder such as Chris and Allenwranch.

The Sandhill pullets' crests are a bit too full, more Polish-y.....they should have more of a mohawk appearance. Just keep working on them.

Brabanters and Spitzhaubens--The Differences PIC HEAVY!

At least you are able to keep working on them to improve crests and combs and feather patterns. I've always wondered what Sandhill Spitz looked like. If I can remember correctly, I think they got their stock from McGraw......not 100% positive.

Sometimes the roos would not crow as much because there are no other roosters around to compete. Mine does that because there are no roosters for a couple of miles in the city LOL!

Usually wattles and combs will be more prominent and more redder than the females.
