Wow, I never heard that before! But it makes lots of sense. My lame bird is male, maybe I mentioned. Everything I've seen on TT suggests it is related to bone growth in some way. It happens when the birds are rapidly growing, and there are persistent suggestions that birds on high protein...

Perfect! I'm hoping I am just being an old worry wart, and I don't want to get you all concerned for sure. I bet he's just fine. Let's just check, though, because it's hard to spot at first, and it's permanent if it's not fixed early.

Well, yes, Zaz is right... they do hop when they are playing. Here's what I'm concerned about... when Shay described her pea as always starting to hop after running a few steps, that's exactly what my lame pea does. He developed a twisted leg when he was a youngster, and I did not know...

This bird that hops when he tries to run, does he sit on a perch? Does he ever run without hopping? How long has this been going on? Did you send two different photos, out was one just a close up?

It's not something you would notice with him in your hand, at least not at first, and he's probably fine anyway. Just look and see if both his feet are pointing forwards when he stands and walks. Look to see if one of his feet might be angling away from the front slightly more than the other...

Hey Shay, just to be on the safe side, how about taking a few pictures of your black shoulder's feet and legs when he is standing and walking around? He's probably okay, I just want to make sure he doesn't have a foot that's starting to turn out. Watch him move around and make sure he isn't...

The next time you have a can to open for cooking, weigh it on the kitchen scale that you got for the birds while still full and then after it is empty, and see if the difference is close to the amount that is supposed to be in the can. There might be a switch on it someplace that changes it...

Okay, let's start a poll: Who agrees with me that Kathy @casportpony is an expert at treating sick peafowl? (Kathy, you are AWESOME at this )

Hey I just started a new thread -- you can get it for FISH without a prescription right here in U.S. as nearly as I can tell. I did some rough (really rough!) number crunching on doses and I think it may work for peas...

I agree with our expert, Kathy -- it's probably time to try a different antibiotic. Poor Little Eagle is cycling through being better, being worse, being better, being worse... but doesn't seem to ever fully recover. That suggests that the Tylan is not totally effective against whatever is...

Super glue works great for gluing wounds shut, they used it on me at the hospital. You can look online and find information about it. I don't think getting into the bloodstream is an issue with it. It's used on some things that used to get stitches. But I am not aware whether it will work...

I had little success with sugar, glad to hear somebody can get it to work. Could be the navel I tried it on was bleeding too much. There's a powder you can get in pharmacy section of store I think, that kinda works, but again, it can only do so much. But it worked way better for me than sugar...

The other way that jumped at me when I started was... If I have an ounce of 50% solution, then I have 1/2 ounce dextrose & 1/2 ounce water. How much water do I need to add to get a 5% solution? Well, I know to have a 5% solution, if I have 1/2 ounce of dextrose, I need to have 19 one-half...

Well, you do a very good job at it, and you make it look easy. I dunno if this helps, but a problem like that is easiest for me if I think about it in parts or fractions. So our desired 5% solution is 1 part dextrose out of 20 total parts ... 1/20 dextrose, 19/20 water... Our 50% starter...

The other thing is, I know Shay isn't comfortable with giving injections, but at this point, maybe there would be someone locally who could help give the Tylan injection safely?
