Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

It can get pretty cold here in Kansas. I used to have a small flock of Barnies, and one particularly cold winter, they did get some frostbite on their combs. My roo's points were a little shorter and more rounded after that, but he was fine otherwise.

Quote: This is what happened to me. I was given some Barnies from a friend, who was told they were supposedly from 'exhibition' lines. Came to find out they are mixed with Welsummer. I'd already sold eggs to a few people before finding out the truth, so am now trying to do damage control...

Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

I was given 4 pullets and a rooster last fall from a friend. He bought the eggs from a breeder (he can't remember the name now) who had show quality birds. Well, being new to the breed, it took me a while to start to wonder why two of my pullets are lighter than the other two, and don't have...

Penny is lovely! I'm not expert, but her lacing looks pretty nice to me? I'll have to get photos of my girls and roo once they can get out again. The refuse to walk in the snow, so both coops are MESSY--ugh! Glad I cleaned before the storm.

Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

A friend gifted me with 5 chicks from SQ stock back in October. They are now 3 months old, so should start laying in the spring. He told me the eggs are not that dark since the birds have been bred more for color and form, but I will post pics when they start laying, if anyone is interested.
